Project/Unit Description

The Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks qualified candidates for an AI/ML engineer position. The role of this position is to conduct research and to develop software in the field of agent-based decision-making to support rapid understanding in complex spectrum environments utilizing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and real-world data. The successful candidate will conduct sponsored research projects in close collaboration with other scientists and engineers. GTRI and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) are complementary institutions that work together to solve customers' technical problems. Our strong connection to Georgia Tech opens the door to the vast intellectual resources of one of America's leading research universities. We offer stability, world-class benefits, and a flexible career path in an applied research and development environment.

Job Purpose

The Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Engineer develops AI/ML algorithms, cloud computing, and/or heterogeneous distributed computing infrastructures to support the deployment of AI/ML applications. The AI/ML Engineer also researches the mathematical foundations and frameworks for nonlinear systems characterized by time-varying and emerging dynamics of evolving or adaptive systems. The AI/ML Engineer develops technical solutions at the leading edge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Genetic Programming, Computer Vision, and advanced data processing, filtering, and fusion techniques in high-performance computing and distributed heterogeneous computing environments. The AI/ML Engineer writes parallel processing programs to deploy ML models developed by data scientists into more complex systems. The AI/ML Engineer has familiarity with state-of-the-art, open-source software frameworks and high-performance computing accelerators for machine learning. When conducting research, the AI/ML Engineer leverages the most recent advances in statistical analysis of large data sets to advance state-of-the-art automated sensor and data processing for a broad range of intelligent and sensor-enabled systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complex system architectures (e.g., high-performance computing clusters, networks, chipsets, GPUs) based on available hardware (e.g., embedded systems, cloud, on-premise, etc.)
  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for system deployment
  • Develop novel algorithms and methodologies
  • Engage with sponsors to understand and meet system requirements
  • Serve as the primary author on technical reports and proposals

Additional Responsibilities

This is a research position that includes applied AI, ML and/or RL to include support framework integration, designing and building web frontends for data visualization, working with and writing code for M&S environments and/or video game engine environments, and design of associated systems and processes. The position will provide M&S support, general software development support, AI, ML, and/or RL support to numerous local efforts supporting primarily government contracts.

Required Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess a strong subset of the following:

  • Use of commodity AI (i.e. state machines, behavior trees, local search, etc), ML and/or RL support frameworks in product development
  • M&S environments and/or video game engines; software development in C++, C#, Python, and/or Java
  • Linux familiarity
  • Container environments like Docker/Singularity/Podman
  • Agile/Scrum software development practices and tools (e.g. Jira, Bitbucket/Git)
    The successful candidate should possess
  • Problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
  • The ability to acquire new skills efficiently and independently
  • Strong performance in a collaborative environment.
