Position Summary

Under the direction and in partnership with the Youth Development Supervisor, the Youth Development Worker's overall responsibilities of this position are to plan, prepare, and implement a variety of curriculums, preventive workshops, college preparation workshops, jobs internships internally/externally, and job-related workshops for the afterschool and summer jobs programs. The Youth Development Worker should strive to forge community partnerships with schools, community service organizations and other stakeholders that will be beneficial for the program. This person must have a passion for working with youth and be a strong advocate for youth and the program within Mary's Center and in the community.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Youth Development Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Plans, prepares, and implements a variety of programs that may include after school curricula, preventive workshops, college preparation workshops, parent's orientation and workshops, recreational trips, summer jobs internships, and summer jobs workshops.
  • Recruits youth for the program; includes attending school events, such as back to school nights.
  • Creates partnerships with schools and other community programs that can enhance the program.
  • Prepares materials for planned activities, including planning and organizing special events.
  • Maintains proper data for documentation, evaluation, and program purposes. These include an intake, records of participants, documentation of all activities and outcomes of said activities and other documentation as identified.
  • Provides crisis intervention and conflict mediation.
  • Develops positive relationships with youth and families.
  • Provides one-on-one support / college guidance to participants as needed.
  • Attends all required staff meetings including team, all staff, trainings, retreats, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -



  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent, or and experience working with youth-oriented programs.
  • A thorough understanding and working knowledge of patient/client confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations is essential.


Language Requirements - Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish or English and Amharic as used by participants.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Typical office and/or participant home providing assessments to families in their home. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. Mostly onsite work schedule with flexibility for some remote work.
