Part-Time Sound Technician - Cheetah Encounter & Wings of Wonder at the Cincinnati Zoo
We are looking for a dynamic individual with experience and strong interest in sound and audio production, to join our zoo team as Seasonal Sound Technician with the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's one-of-a-kind, interactive Cheetah Encounter program, as well as our incredible Wings of Wonder bird show. This position plays a key role in the audio background, audio transitions, and trainer audio support for our large public animal encounters.
Position Summary: Duties include all responsibilities pertaining to the sound components of the presentation. This includes finding and mixing music and sound effects to accompany the presentation script and creating sound files. Duties also include operating the sound system during presentation, adjusting microphone levels, playing sound effects and music during appropriate times. Candidate will also be responsible for the maintenance and care of the sound equipment, including routine microphone care (checking batteries, storing equipment appropriately, etc.), running sound checks and problem- solving potential equipment malfunctions. This position is an independent role and allows for collaborative music and sound development with the CZBG animal trainer teams.
The ideal candidate will possess and demonstrate the following attributes: strong communication skills; a positive attitude in the work environment and support a strong team environment; demonstrated initiative and a strong work & conservation ethic; appropriate professional appearance, attitude and personality to work effectively with Zoo staff members, donors, guests and the public.
Requirements: Must have knowledge of sound systems and audio/video production. Candidate must be willing to learn use of installed sound system via tablet. Candidate must be comfortable utilizing microphones, speakers, tablets, and sound systems.
Previous experience working in a theater/show/community production and/or degree in audio/video production preferred; requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. We are looking for a candidate who has excellent listening skills, mixing/musical skills and ability to adapt them to the "house sound". Candidate must possess a positive attitude and help the team feel supported by being a clear communicator and be able to take feedback throughout the season. The location of the work is on Zoo-grounds, in our theater areas, where there may be a crowd up to 800 people in one area. Noise levels range from low- moderate noise levels.
Employment Duration : Position will run from Mid March,2024 to October 31, 2024. Work schedule varies between 25-30 hours a week, off days during the week, (hours vary between 10am and 4pm) with occasional additional evening hours. Employee must be available for the entire position season.
Pay Rate: $16.00/hr - $18.00/hr

Working Conditions: Employment is conditional on successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug & nicotine screen. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk and utilize manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard and other office equipment. Incumbent may be exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
