Overview

The Department of Data Science at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is conducting a search for Computational Biologists. This person(s) will collaborate with medical and basic science researchers and fellow computational biologists in study design, development of bioinformatic pipelines and analysis modules for the analysis and publication of high-throughput omic data from cancer studies including Phase I / II or III clinical trials and basic cancer research.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have formal training and experience in analysis of high-throughput data using statistical or machine learning methods, and strong programming skills. Projects may include:

  • Development and maintenance of computational pipelines using publicly available and in-house developed tools for the analysis of patient data
  • Combined analysis of data from public with data generated in-house for on-trial patients
  • Responsible for statistical aspects of study/experiment design, identification of appropriate tests and models, data analysis and visualization, assuring quality of data
  • Follows best practices for developing and maintaining reproducible bioinformatics pipelines and analysis including but not limited to extensive documentation, source code versioning/management using git, using reproducible compute environment such as Docker etc.
  • Contribute to clinical and scientific reports, grants, progress reports, publications, and presentations at scientific conferences

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field, or Master's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, and/or life science.
  • 1 year of experince required with Bachelor's degree or 0 years with Master's degree; academic research experience or authorship in scientific publications experience may substitute for work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics pipeline development and analysis in at least one of the following domains: single cell genomics, WGS, WES, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, bulk RNA, multi-omics.
  • Good practical knowledge of statistics / biostatistics proven by statistics/biostatistics coursework and/or previous job experience.
  • Experience developing algorithms and proficiency in coding (C/C++, Perl, Python, JAVA, Scala or equivalent).
  • Experience in data analysis languages/environments (R or equivalent, Unix/Linux environment).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior knowledge of cancer biology or immunology is a plus.
  • Software development experience is desirable but not required
