The Criminal Appeals Bureau (CAB) of The Legal Aid Society is the largest post-conviction public defender in New York City, annually providing holistic, client-centered representation to over 1,000 people with misdemeanor, felony, and homicide convictions.

CAB has an opening for a Support Staff to help maintain our internal databases, including opening new cases, entering data in our case management system, attaching critical client documents, and running reports. The person in this role will also send introductory letters and make requests for initial client documents among other responsibilities. The position requires excellent attention to detail and fluency with Microsoft Office programs as well as an interest in learning the procedural nuances of an intricate post-conviction practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Opens new client cases on case management system and updates cases with additional information and documents
  • Sends introductory letters to new clients and requests initial documents
  • Records attorney productivity points in points database
  • Runs monthly reports and circulates to attorneys and supervisors
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Manhattan - Criminal Defense Practice Office

  • High school diploma or GED
  • High proficiency in word processing and computer skills, especially Microsoft Office
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent administrative and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve



SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

Salary Range/ Salary: $48,927 to $70,669
