The Geologist will work alongside Senior Geologist and other mining engineers to
help with coal exploration programs as assigned; tasks include the planning of drill hole locations and the design of drill sites, core logging, geological mapping, scoping roof for hazards and coal sampling. Job Objective: Help Senior Geologist with daily job duties including, traveling to drill rig sites, logging core, planning future drill hole locations, channel sampling underground, scoping holes underground for hazard maps. Essential Functions * Assist in overseeing multiple drill rigs and logging of core * Help with planning future drill locations and structural analysis of core data, e-logs and other lithologic interpretations * Assist in month end mapping and closing * Ensure core logging reports are accurate, complete and communicate with Senior Geologist of findings * Using Carlson and/or Surfer for mapping * Scope hole data is recorded and properly logged * Channel sampling by WMC standards * Ensuring all job functions adhere to health and safety regulations * Other duties as assigned Preferred Competencies: Demonstrated skills and abilities as might be expected from an individual with . . . * 1-5 years geology or engineering experience, preferably in the coal mining industry * MSHA Hazard Training for underground and surface * Knowledge regarding site management and environmental BMPs * Able to work with minimal supervision. (passed Mine Foreman exam) * Experience with AutoCAD, Carlson, and Surfer * Works well with diversity within different discipline * Varied levels of travel for field work will be required in these roles * Must hold a valid driver's license * Physically fit, to work in various environments on the surface and underground Every employee is expected to demonstrate the following core values: Safety and Stewardship, Integrity, Personal Responsibility, Teamwork and People Development. |
