Mechanical Engineer Intern

The Airborne Systems Division, within the Defense Group at Leidos, currently has a dynamic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to work in our Beavercreek, OH office providing support for our Wright Patterson Air Force Base customer. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to advance the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Rapid Technology Development and Demonstrations (RTD2) program. In support of the RTD2 program, your position as a Mechanical Engineer will be to support AFRL programs mature new and emerging technologies. The position objectives are to provide technical and operational support of new and evolving sensor systems and sensor technologies, provide support for ground and flight demonstrations and tests, and to perform sensor system integration into laboratories, aircraft, and other vehicles/platforms as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the design and integration of sensors and systems payloads on various ground and air based applications

  • Design and develop 3D models and drawings for manufacturing of ground and aircraft testing components

  • Develop parts lists (BOMs) for drawings and payloads

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team

  • Assembly of components and payloads

  • Support flight testing events

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • Experience with CAD tools, manufacturing drawings and basic modeling techniques

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Familiar with and able to use common hand tools (screw drivers, drills, wrenches)

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

  • Able to work in unairconditioned/outdoor environments (hangar spaces, flight lines) during testing events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Creo (Pro Engineer)

  • Experience with ASME Y14 drawing practices

  • Familiar with manufacturing technologies and processes

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems

Pay Range:Pay Range $37,050.00 - $66,975.00
