HX5 is currently seeking a CFD Aircraft Propulsion Engineer to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate should have experience in the aerodynamic analysis, design, and airframe integration of aircraft engine inlet and exhaust nozzle systems.

Job responsibilities will include:



  • Generating innovative conceptual aerodynamic designs of installed aircraft exhaust nozzles for improved performance and reduced acoustic emissions.
  • Performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) RANS analyses of installed aircraft engine inlet systems integrated with airframes for aerodynamic performance and of the internal and external flows in aircraft nozzle systems.
  • Defining flow surfaces through solid modeling and generating CFD grids on complex geometries using NASA and/or commercial CFD packages.
  • Visualizing, analyzing, and interpreting CFD results.
  • Interacting with Research Engineers specializing in inlet and nozzle design, acoustics, and aircraft engine systems.
  • Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely.


Required Skills:



  • A strong background in compressible flows and applied aerodynamics.
  • Experience with solid modeling and CFD grid generation; structured and unstructured.
  • Experience with CFD simulations and post-processing analysis.


Other Desired Skills:



  • Familiarity with aircraft propulsion turbomachinery concepts.
  • Experience with CFD analysis of turbomachinery components.
  • Acoustics background a plus.


Education/Experience:

Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering degree with the following education and experience:



  • Preferred - Master's degree and 0 to 3 years of experience
  • Minimum - Bachelor's degree and 2 to 5 years of experience


Other Position Requirements:



  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
