FHI 360 has an exciting internship opportunity for students interested in growing their skills within the international development sector. Under close supervision, an intern will perform entry-level professional duties, providing the opportunity for professional training in various functional areas throughout the organization. Internship assignments will offer practical experience and broad exposure to a global nonprofit development organization. The intern will work in the NTDs Department, specifically the USAID's Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) | West Program ("Act | West") - a USAID-funded program to support the elimination of NTDs in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The project seeks to build upon the achievements of USAID's previous NTD investments (2010-2019) in West Africa in their efforts to eliminate lymphatic filariasis (LF) and trachoma as a public health problem and the elimination of onchocerciasis (OV) in selected countries. It aims to make NTD programs capable of sustaining treatment for long-term control programs for schistosomiasis (SCH), soil-transmitted helminths (STH), and OV, and mainstream NTD programs into the national health system. This is a paid internship with a flexible schedule based on project needs. Anticipated Duration: Summer 2024 semester: mid-May - mid-August Location: Remote, USA (strong preference given to candidates residing in Eastern time zone) Hours: Part-time, 30 hours per week; or full-time, 40 hours per week Pay Rate: $23.00-$25.00/hour (master's student or graduate) Skills Gained and Learning Opportunities:
Anticipated Project(s) and Assignment Details: Under the supervisor's direction, the intern will assist in developing onchocerciasis (OV) program implementation tools and a manuscript highlighting the progress towards controlling and eliminating OV and contributing to improving the monitoring and evaluation of OV programs. Specific assignments:
The intern will contribute to the following activities: Collate data and information about OV surveys implemented in various countries Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Checklists, and Job aids for OV survey field implementation Conduct a literature review and data analysis for OV progress in selected countries Review WHO guidelines and the OV Technical Advisory Subgroup (OTS) recommendations regarding OV surveys (Baseline mapping, OEM, impact monitoring, breeding site prospection, pre-stop MDA survey, Stop-MDA survey, and post-transmission and post-elimination surveys) Conduct a literature review for the drafting of the OV manuscript Contribute to initiate a draft manuscript Qualifications and Competencies:
