Moffatt & Nichol's Long Beach (preferred) or Costa Mesa, CA office is actively seeking a Structural Engineer with 1 to 4 years of design experience and interest in waterfront/marine focus to perform planning and design for waterfront structures projects, including large and small marinas, ports, terminals, vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads, breakwater and shore protection structures. The ideal candidate will have or be interested in learning structural analysis and modeling experience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis, design, inspection of waterfront structures, asset management, submarine systems, and other maritime projects
  • Structural analysis and design with timber, steel, concrete and composite materials
  • Prestressed concrete analysis and design
  • Develop plans, specifications, and calculations as needed
  • Help resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
  • Calculate construction quantity estimates and assist in construction cost estimating
  • Work closely with other architects, engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
  • Prepare conceptual and feasibility study reports and memorandums
  • Assist in public engagement meetings and preparation of presentation materials

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Structural focus and seismic instruction required. A Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred
  • EIT certification required
  • 1 to 4 years of structural design experience. Experience in waterfront/marine structural or bridge design strongly preferred
  • Background on structural modeling with nonlinear elements and/or soil-structure interaction preferred
  • Preferred experience using:
    • AutoCad
    • SAP2000
    • STAAD
    • LPile
    • MicroStation
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$33 to $41 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.
