Department Information

Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional halls, suites, and apartments, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff among seven departments support residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents.

Job Summary

Perform skilled work involved in installing, maintaining, and repairing locks and locking systems. Execute electronic door access/proximity card work orders throughout the housing complex. This position will interact on a regular basis with campus staff and students. This position typically will advise and counsel: campus staff and students. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Perform preventive maintenance on doors, related hardware, control panels, and power supplies supporting centralized electronic access systems.

Job Duty 2 -

Install, maintain, and repair door hardware, standard and electronic locks, ADA devices, auto-operators, vehicle gate operators, dialers, door alarms, and door hardware.

Job Duty 3 -

Combinate and install cores, make and distribute keys.

Job Duty 4 -

Perform data entry to manage key database and card access privileges and access packages. Input, maintain, and backup lock, key databases, and data in access software, including gate and office dialer systems.

Job Duty 5 -

Perform on-site repairs to door lock hardware, including low voltage and ADA-related hardware. Reorder and restock products. Train various other locksmith employees in proper care and service as primary responders for all hardware associated with the campus proximity card system.

Job Duty 6 -

Interface with campus buzz card office and administrative personnel for routine updates and system management requirements.

Job Duty 7 -

Complete paperwork on daily worksheets, work requests, reports, and key audits.

Job Duty 8 -

Create work requests for wireless locks based on daily Lock Status Reports.

Job Duty 9 -

Share in after-hours on-call pager duties on a rotating schedule.

Job Duty 10 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Five to seven years of job-related experience

Other Required Qualifications

Overnight travel required; flexibility in on-site daily service hours

Proposed Salary

Hourly Range: $20.68-$28.12/hr.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires advanced knowledge of locks and related electronic equipment for electronic access systems; working knowledge of building support/maintenance, installation of equipment, motor vehicle operation, reading prints, drawings, schematics, building security and purchasing; interpersonal communication skills; and basic knowledge of office related computer applications, and operation and maintenance of standard office equipment, electrical/electronic instrumentation, machine tools, motor vehicles, and hand/power tools.
