Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with execution of Stonyfield's agriculture strategy for reducing GHG emissions in line with our Science-Based Target. This position will focus on data collection and entry for farm-level carbon footprinting using the Cool Farm Tool platform. Create summary & individualized Cool Farm Tool result reports for farmer facing audience and update milk emission factor to support carbon inventory accounting.
  • In collaboration with Sustainable Agriculture Manager and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation staff (lead grant partner), prepare outreach materials and events to engage direct supply farms located in Vermont with manure management grant through USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program. Track Stonyfield supplier engagement and support grant application completion.
  • As part of Stonyfield's OpenTEAM engagement, assist with farmer adoption of tech tools like grazing record keeping apps and data collection for GHG models including Cool Farm Tool and Regrow's MRV platform. In coordination with Wolfe's Neck Center (WNC), onboard farms into WNC's USDA Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities program, setting up contracts with farmers to implement grant-funded regenerative practices.
  • Support other aspects of the sustainable agriculture strategy for the full Lactalis US Yogurt milk supply. This includes organic, conventional, and non-GMO milk sourced for Brown Cow, siggi's, Green Mountain, and private label brands.
  • As needed, conduct literature reviews and outreach to researchers on relevant topics including efficacy of biochar, agroforestry, and feed additives to reduce enteric fermentation as pathways for reducing organic dairy farm GHG emissions.
  • Schedule permitting, assist the Lactalis US Yogurt sourcing and sustainability teams with other projects related to organic transition planning for prospective Stonyfield direct supply farms, organic training, and sustainability in other agricultural ingredient supply chains.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in graduate study in agriculture or a related field.
  • Experience or interest in responsible sourcing programs related to environmental and social impacts of agricultural supply chains
  • Experience or interest in research in areas relevant to agricultural greenhouse gas emissions mitigation.
  • Experience with farm level data collection and database management; interest in using technology to build knowledge networks and advance agricultural sustainability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and public communication abilities especially with diverse audiences, as well as writing and analysis skills
  • Farming experience, or experience working with farmers, a plus
  • Strong organizational abilities, time management skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability and willingness to travel independently to farms around New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and eastern New York) and to the Londonderry, NH office as needed.

Compensation

For New York City based interns the rate of pay is $22.50/hour.
