ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Structural Bridge Engineer | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL | Hybrid

VHB is in search of a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join the established and growing Structures group in our FL offices. Joining our team means becoming a part of a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking environment where we lead the industry with cutting-edge model-based bridge design.

In this position, you would serve in a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail - as well as mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities

    Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staff
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
  • Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
  • Provide project management support
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills & Abilities

  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Must possess strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essential
  • Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff
  • Model-based design experience
  • Project management skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred
  • PE license required
  • Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software
    (i.e. Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
    • Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
    • AutoCADD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8-11 years of structural bridge design experience
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures
    • 1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a Master's degree
