As a Senior Atlassian System Administrator with Certara, you are part of a global, fast-paced IT organization. Our primary mission is to provide capable & resilient world-class assistance to professional services, software, and corporate business units, ensuring our team members have the access and ability to perform at the highest level in service of our customers.

The Senior Atlassian System Administrator is a vital position that bridges the gap between engineering, product management, and customer success teams. The main goal of this role is to ensure that the features and functionalities in the Atlassian suite align with the needs and expectations of the customers and that product performance and quality are measured and improved continuously. Reporting to the Head of Service Delivery, you'll help shape and deliver the direction our solution takes in the future, ensuring at all times it meets the needs of our customers.

The role requires a passion for supporting team members and using technology to facilitate a better end-user experience for business users. This role is a core member of the Service Desk and should be comfortable being both hands-on in the actioning of support requests and collaborating with operations and infrastructure team members while ensuring appropriate support of knowledgebase articles and documentation for the greater IT organization with key compliance requirements: SOX, ISO 9001 / 27001, SOC2, etc.


Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of this position include:

  • Daily responsibilities will include scripting, installing plugins, managing permissions in the tool, troubleshooting any application-related issues, configuring workflows, and creating new projects within the JIRA and Confluence space.
  • Serve as the Atlassian technical resource for plug-in upgrades.
  • Serve as the primary user support contact for Atlassian tools and plug-ins and provide training to internal users.
  • Open and manage requests to Atlassian technical support.
  • Test new versions of the tools and plug-ins to ensure compatibility.
  • Manage user permissions for tools according to the needs of projects and teams.
  • Analyze, review, and document current functionality to determine potential areas of improvement.
  • Research and utilize industry-standard methods and techniques.
  • Maintain and improve security, projects, workflows, permissions, and users.
  • Work with JIRA filters, reporting, dashboards, workflows, fields, and JIRA administration. Build dashboards and reports to support business stakeholders.

Primary Duties:

  • Atlassian Administration
  • Administer and configure the Atlassian suite of tools, primarily Jira Software, Confluence, and Jira Service Management.
  • In partnership with Atlassian product manager, address business problems and provide scalable solutions using Atlassian products.
  • Provide technical and operational support as well as conduct training for employees and new hires on the usage of Jira and other Atlassian tools.
  • Will work with application-level filters, reporting, dashboards, workflows, fields, and Jira administration.
  • Identify areas of improvement within the Atlassian suite and perform analysis and review of current workflows, projects, permissions, and functionality.
  • Create and update documentation on the setup and administration of Atlassian products.
  • Stay informed about the latest features, updates, and trends in Atlassian tools and recommend improvements for their optimal usage.
  • Maintain governance policies, security controls, and compliance standards related to Atlassian tools.
  • Conduct regular audits and optimizations of Atlassian tool configurations, user access, and permission settings.
  • Provides guidelines, knowledge sharing, and best practices around how we can improve processes.

Project Work

  • Independently oversees medium to large projects that have an impact across the organization. This includes obtaining business requirements, performing an initial analysis of the subject or issue, developing timelines, providing budget estimations, researching, and proposing computing solutions, and planning and implementing those solutions.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities to increase automation and efficiencies to increase customer/employee satisfaction.
  • Considers long-term view and impact when determining technical vendor partnerships and products, including SOA's future goals, growth, and actions. Research industry best practices during these considerations.
  • Maintains responsibility for the end-user experience of SOA employees in the areas of Atlassian environments.
  • Documents processes and procedures to support end users. Ensures that end user experience is standardized across the organization as well as protects the integrity of data in our SOA systems.
  • Collaborates with SOA IT management to present solutions for inclusion in the IT project portfolio.

Miscellaneous/Other

  • Provide constructive feedback on implementations with the goal of continuous improvement.
  • Execute projects using various technology solutions in an Agile framework.
  • Use Jira & Confluence to deliver creative solutions for non-standard use cases.
  • Will maintain Jira and Confluence projects, workflows, permissions, users, and security.
  • Develops and reviews weekly and monthly reports as checks and balances to ensure that correct processes are being followed.


Qualifications

Certification - Examples appropriate to the role:

  • Experience programming/scripting (JavaScript, Groovy, Python, Shell or similar)
  • Basic HTML, CSS, JS, and SQL skills
  • Background and understanding of APIs and creating custom add-ons using Atlassian SDKs
  • Experience using and managing common add-ons like Portfolio, EazyBI, ScriptRunner, and the Bob Swift suite
  • Experience programming/scripting (JavaScript, Groovy, Python, Shell or similar)

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience/knowledge of the Atlassian suite of productivity apps, standard associated technologies, and third-party products. A significant subset of these skills is desired:

  • 7 years of experience administering Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Crowd).
  • Outstanding problem-solving and can tackle tough challenges with innovative thinking and determination.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications
  • Excellent communication skills and can effectively discuss technical issues with both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.
  • Experience with research and development of Atlassian technologies.
  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with JQL.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of both Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
  • Experience extending Atlassian products via code development is preferable.
  • Experience directly integrating Atlassian products with other systems is preferable.
  • Knowledge of script runner is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Team player with strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and resolve complex problems.
  • Experience in engineering Large Scale Deployment/Migrations.
  • Ability to create presentations for business partners and project stakeholders.
