POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Automation Engineer will develop, implement, and support automation and control systems for manufacturing processes, quality inspections, and material handling. This position will identify, prepare justifications, and coordinate the design and development of new processes, systems, and equipment (automated and non-automated). This role will serve as a subject matter expert in automation and robotics.

CORE FUNCTIONS

* Design, develop and deploy automation and robotic systems to support manufacturing processes inclusive of fabrication, coating, assembly, and material handling. This will include capital planning, project management, and working with external resources and/or vendors to successfully plan and implement.

* Develop automated and non-automated quality inspection and error proofing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing inspection and validation methods and equipment.

* Develop detailed project plans and communicate requirements to key stakeholders.

* Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow space requirements and equipment layout.

* Depending on project scope, the role may lead engineers or technicians as part of project execution strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other related engineering/technology-based field is required.

* 5+ years of related experience in automation design, integration and manufacturing systems is required.

* CNC, PLC, robotic programming, and SQL experience required.

* 2D and/or 3D CAD experience required (preferably AutoCAD & SolidWorks).

* ERP or manufacturing software experience preferred.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge



  • Strong project planning skills and ability to communicate effectively with cross functional partners.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical schematic designs and control programs.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment safety standards and code requirements (i.e. NEC, ANSI, and OSHA standards).


Travel

* Occasional travel up to 25% may be required.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead: working team member who coordinates, supports, trains, and is a knowledge resource for other team members. No direct reports or supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Activities

* This position is subject to the following physical activities: kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.

Visual Acuity

* The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Working Conditions

* The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat, noise, and vibrations from a production-based environment.
