Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services (GCBHS) is seeking a Family Support Specialist to provide psychoeducation to the families of someone who is diagnosed with a mental illness. Coaches families on problem solving and decision making. Mediates concerns between the treatment team and families and provide training on stress management and effective communication skills.. This is a full-time position at our Amelia, OH location.

Position Responsibilities for Family Support Specialist:

    1. Assist families in reducing barriers to learning and improving the mental health of their family member.
    2. Establishes warm, supportive working relationship with client and his/her family and assess each specific needs.
    3. Provides services based on the treatment plan.
    4. Makes referrals for appropriate resources, monitor participation in services, assists families to access those resources when necessary
    5. Maintains contact with other service providers to insure collaboration.
    6. Manages crisis response and crisis intervention practices.
    7. Demonstrates appropriate sensitivity and knowledge of the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
    8. Assists team members in meeting client outcomes
    9. Works in collaboration with care managers to assure that service delivery is the appropriate amount of service in the appropriate setting and promotes client recovery and empowerment.

Position Requirements for Family Support Specialist:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field. Excellent crisis intervention and management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Open to reflective practice (i.e. has capacity for introspection, communicates awareness of self in relation to others, recognizes value of supervision, etc.).
