The Role

QuidelOrtho is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer Intern that wants to spend their 2024 summer working towards our mission: Changing Lives, One Test at a Time. Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop their skills all while contributing to key company projects and initiatives. Our team will help students apply their educational background and broaden their knowledge base within their role and learn more about working in the medical device/biotech industry. Interns will work with a mentor(s) on a guided and impactful project and will be able to collaborate with and be part of a supportive and dedicated team.

This Internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid program for 12-weeks.

Cohort 1: May 20th through August 12th

Cohort 2: June 17th through September 9th

This Intern will be on-site at the manufacturing facility in Rochester, NY.

The Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the optimization of machine vision systems.
  • Evaluate and provide solutions to reduce product waste on Slide Assembly. Machines (SAMs) and Packaging machines.
  • Analysis of waste, analysis of results utilizing statistical methodologies, and equipment upkeep.
  • Assist in execution of validation test procedures for new equipment.
  • Utilize statistical tools to analyze experimental data.
  • Communicate experimental results to relevant stakeholders.
  • Set-up, de-bug, and maintain critical laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through the proactive identification of hazards and risks.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Field of Study: Image Science, Machine Vision, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's or Master's program in the Fall Semester 2024 at an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to start on either May 20th or June 17th.
  • Ability to complete a consecutive 10-12 week internship.
  • Motivation, intellect, and curiosity with a keen interest in improving human health.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking skills, as well as the ability to manage one's own time independently.
  • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred:

  • Rising Junior or Senior at an accredited university or college.
  • Exposure to part inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of computer scripting.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, laboratory and manufacturing environment and may include handling of viral and bacterial hazards as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for current Freshman, rising Sophomore is 18.00/hour; Sophomore, rising Junior is 20/hour; Junior, rising senior is $23.00/hour to $26.00/hour; Senior, enrolled in school for fall 2024 is 25.00/hour to 28.00/hour; or currently enrolled Graduate, MBD, PhD program is 28.00/hour to 30.00/hour. At QuidelOrtho, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
