Job Summary: The Apprentice installs, maintains, and repairs general mechanical and/or electrical systems, and operates with planned maintenance, predictive maintenance, and precision maintenance with repairs and installations based on reliability condition maintenance of industrial machinery, equipment, physical plant structures. The Apprentice will apply general knowledge and troubleshooting experience with pneumatic and hydraulic circuits and components, precision alignment, power transmission, thermodynamics, solving mechanical and electrical components/systems, advanced vacuum technology, chemical delivery systems, arc and oxyfuel welding & safety, with various industrial applications in a safe industrial manufacturing working environment.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety, health, and environmental standards and policies by taking personal responsibility to prevent injury or illness from exposure to hazards.
  • Perform the proper lockout/tagout (LOTO and LOTOV) procedures on equipment in accordance with all applicable standards to ensure all levels of zero energy state prior to commencing maintenance work and minimize health, safety, and environmental hazards as defined by the company's current policy.
  • Document accurate maintenance activities using the facility's maintenance management system to record history, assist with future planning and scheduling, development of maintenance procedures, and support root-cause failure analysis. Information should be legible, clear, concise, and accurate and relevant to the corrective maintenance performed.
  • Perform preventive and/or predictive maintenance according to the work schedule and work order to maximize mean time between failures. Inspections are a combination of measuring objective conditions using Predictive (Pdm) technologies (vibration, ultrasonic, infrared, oil analysis, etc.) and subjective (look, listen, feel, smell) inspections.
  • Obtain appropriate technical documentation using engineering and maintenance department resources along with original manufacture information to gain full understanding of designed operating systems.
  • Lubricate equipment in accordance with the lubrication schedule and equipment specifications to ensure reliable performance and prevent damage. Cleanliness standards for each piece of equipment should match the clearances in the equipment's lubricated surfaces. Utilize infrared and ultrasonic devices for proper lubrication techniques.
  • Perform alignment checks on rotating equipment (e.g., pumps, fans, blowers, gear boxes, compressors, shafts, etc.) in accordance with equipment specifications to ensure reliable performance and prevent damage. All alignments are done to 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) for equipment running below 3600 rpm and 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) for equipment running above 3600 rpm.
  • Investigate recent maintenance activities, performance criteria, and recent machine anomalies, as conditions require, by reviewing equipment history to identify information that will facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Identify the root cause of the problem using a systematic process of elimination or root cause analysis to determine and identify the malfunction.
  • Verify troubleshooting analysis by disassembling and inspecting components using established best maintenance procedures in accordance with applicable OEM standards and guidelines to confirm that the identified corrective action is appropriate.
  • Release repaired equipment for return to service using standard operating procedures to resume normal operations by informing department personnel. Any isolated conditions that caused the equipment malfunction or breakdown should be communicated with the appropriate personnel.
  • Must be in the classroom with proper educational materials and ready for class by the scheduled time of class, make up any tests due to an absence within a one-week period from the date the test was originally administered, and must maintain a "C" average throughout the Apprenticeship Program.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma (grade averages of C's or better) or GED certificate (minimum score must be 520) is required. Must submit a copy of your transcript or GED test scores with the application.
  • Must successfully complete the COMPASS college entrance assessments and aptitude test and submit a resume, essay, and letter(s) of recommendations for review.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
