Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a Data Coordinator Lead position available through the Cancer Prevention Department. Specifically, this position is under the direction of Dr. Katrina Ortblad within the Division of Public Health Sciences at Fred Hutch. Dr. Ortblad's research aims to improve equity in health access with differentiated models of HIV service delivery in high prevalence settings. Most of her work focuses on designing innovative models for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery with African research colleagues, refining these models using findings from qualitative research and stakeholder engagement, and then testing these models in pilot studies and later hybrid implementation-effectiveness trials. Dr. Ortblad's research uses diverse methods across the fields of epidemiology, economics, public policy, psychology, and implementation science.



Responsibilities

The position is based in Seattle and part of a larger research team across the U.S. and Kenya. The applicant will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator in close collaboration with Co-Investigators and Biostatisticians. The Data Coordinator Lead's duties will allow participation along the entire research continuum, from proposal submission to dissemination of results.

    Work closely with the research team to review and edit research protocols with regard to data collection and analysis.
  • Help draft data collection, processing, entry, and quality control Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Serve as a liaison and reference resource to Investigators, other staff members, and other organizations with questions about data collection protocols, procedures, and requirements. Assist with troubleshooting data-related issues, as needed.
  • Coordinate data oversight/responsibilities with the Kenyan data teams.
  • Help program data collection tools into electronic data collection platforms and build in appropriate data validation measures. Refine, test, and edit data entry forms as needed.
  • Work with technology provider to ensure electronic data collection platform is meeting the needs of the research team.
  • Develop and maintain study database(s).
  • Provide initial and ongoing training to Data Coordinators and Research Assistants on data entry, quality control procedures, and building and running data reports, developing study-specific training materials, as needed.
  • Oversee the daily work of Data Coordinators and Research Assistants, tracking progress and providing performance feedback as necessary.
  • Coordinate and track set-up of appropriate data sharing agreements.
  • Prepare data dictionaries.
  • Perform routine data quality control to ensure quality and completeness of data collected. Work with Kenyan data teams, as needed, to identify and resolve data errors.
  • Monitor adherence to data collection protocols, investigating and reporting any deviation.
  • Prepare reports for the Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMB) and work with the DSMBs to review and monitor participant clinical trial data.
  • Help clean and prepare datasets for analysis; merging data from multiple sources as needed.
  • Analyze quantitative study data using summary metrics and multivariable regression models; willingness to learn new analytic skills under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Biostatistician.
  • Create data visualizations for use in grant applications, presentations, posters, study reports, DSMB meetings, and scientific papers.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality by following all relevant federal, institutional, and study guidelines and research protocols.
  • Perform other duties related to data collection, management, and analysis, as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Metrics & Evaluation, Pharmacy, Global Health, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong data management and computer skills particularly with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses such as Databricks, Snowflake, etc.
  • Experience using statistical and/or data visualization software, like Tableau, STATA, or R.
  • Background in electronic database management (e.g., CommCare, REDCap).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively about data collection, processing, and analysis, including some background in writing methods and/or results sections for scientific publications.
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a diverse research team.
  • Ability to think critically and synthesize complex issues to move projects forward.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and cross-cultural competency.
  • Flexibility to participate in meetings outside usual work hours to accommodate schedules of partners primarily located in Africa.
  • Personal characteristics like professionalism, flexibility/adaptability, punctuality, positive attitude, and excellent attention to detail that allow comfort in a fast-paced and complex work environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree (MS or MPH).
  • Previous management experience.
  • Experience conducting descriptive statistics and regression analysis.
  • Previous experience living and or working abroad.
  • Experience in the analysis and design of public health intervention studies and/or clinical trials.
  • Passion for the mission of the organization.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $67,728 to $99,237, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
