Position Summary

The Program Assistant position provides assistance and support to all activities of the Escondido Corps, including property and programs and as directed, provides operational management to maintain The Salvation Army programs, property, members, and services of the Corps.

Essential Functions



  • Assist in Property Management and maintenance including but not limited to janitorial duties such as trash, general cleaning, dishes, vacuuming, mopping and sanitation of building and grounds as directed and as needed.
  • Assist with moving tables, chairs, desks, storage racks, and other office and classroom furniture, chapel and gym seating/setup, and stage set up as directed.
  • Assist in property related maintenance including but not limited to replacing ceiling tiles, spot cleaning carpets, changing light bulbs, etc. as needed.
  • Picking up food donations from various stores throughout the week, requires lifting of boxes of up to 50lbs. Requires use of The Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Must keep a detailed log of donations and assist in computer data entry for Feeding San Diego, including but not limited to Monthly reports to The Salvation Army and to Feeding San Diego, vehicle mileage, entering social services client's data into Wellsky and Corps Management or another program as directed and as needed.
  • Assist in weekly meal prep, including but not limited to preparing, cooking, cleaning, sanitation, doing dishes, serving, packaging meals and meal delivery as directed.
  • Assist in management and successful operations including but not limited to Business matters affecting and relating directly to assigned corps, maintaining the fiscal integrity of the assigned corps (including complete and proper record keeping and security), and ensuring high standards of stewardship for funds, property, and resources.
  • Assist in program management and successful operations including but not limited to Driving for programs (picking up donations, transporting corps members and seasonal workers and program participants such as camp or day camp); ordering materials, and helping with seasonal operations (kettles, thanksgiving, food boxes, Christmas programs etc.) as directed and as needed.
  • Assist in weekly operations including but not limited to Bank deposits, Deluxe, Corps Management software and any Finance Web related charges or invoices including CARE.
  • Assist in seasonal activities and programs as needed including Summer Camp, Day Camp, Christmas Assistance, Kettles, Thanksgiving and Trunk or Treat Harvest Festival.
  • Assist in weekly food assistance operations, including but not limited to, driving for food pickups, packing food boxes, overseeing food distribution and handling any complaints from the clients. Report all incidents as required in a timely manner.
  • Maintain proper records, (including statistical, financial, and all others required)
  • Maintain good public relations, Function in harmony with The Salvation Army guidelines, promote, direct and support special events and activities for assigned Corps.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge including typing, Excel and Word.
  • Answering the telephone, making phone calls, answering the door when available to do so, and interacting with clients needing services. Good communication skills a must.
  • Help maintain vehicles including but not limited to washing, oil changes, keeping vehicles fueled, keeping them clean and free of damage. Report all incidents immediately.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting program demands.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on a continuous or intermittent basis.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain food handler's card.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, filing cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must successfully complete The Salvation Army's driver safety program before driving and will be required to recertify annually as required.
  • Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program. (The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two (2) moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period; see The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy)

Education
High School or Equivalent (required)
Experience
Basic computer knowledge and typing skills, including Word, Publisher, and Excel. (No minimum wpm required). Ability to use multi-line network telephone system. Minimum 5 years driving experience (non-professional). Must have knowledge of cooking and preparing meals, and a willingness to prepare meals for large numbers of people. Ability to read, write and communicate well in English. Bilingual in English/Spanish is beneficial, but not required. (required)
