Description

The Publicity Assistant will report to the VP of Publicity in the St Martin's Publishing Group publicity. This position will provide support for publicizing a variety of books and authors, with a focus on upmarket fiction, Horror, biography and memoirs. There are also opportunities for assisting and working independently on publicity campaigns within the SMPG group across fiction and nonfiction genres. This role operates under a hybrid model offering the opportunity for partial remote work as well as requiring a presence at our downtown Manhattan office.

What you'll do:



  • Share departmental duties such as directing email queries and sending book requests
  • Orchestrate media mailings of galleys and finished books
  • Assist in writing and distributing compelling press releases and creative pitch letters
  • Assist with author book tours, booking travel and maintaining schedules
  • Assist in outreach to targeted media
  • Monitor book coverage in key media outlets and track bestseller information
  • Research media outlets and event venues and updating publicity database
  • Provide support for additional team member, including pulling media lists and arranging travel


What you'll bring:



  • Ability to multi-task while working in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently in a hybrid environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong interest in the book industry
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of media
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel


Ideal Experience:



  • Bachelors Degree required, preferably in a relevant subject area
  • Internship at a publishing house, in event planning, or in a public relations capacity is a plus
  • Ability to attend author events in NY/NJ Regional area


This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
