Senior Associate, Legal Operations, Risk & Supplier Management

This position will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management and operations of the networks of law firms supporting the Legal Department. In this capacity, the candidate will collaborate with all levels of the department, company and outside legal vendors and manage multiple projects. This role has oversight over the governance of the outside counsel management program, including tracking legal spend and pricing, law firm staffing, performance and other metrics, as well as helping to implement a well-managed strategy for engagement and management of outside counsel. This role requires cross-functional coordination to ensure alignment with both departmental and company strategies and objectives. This position is also responsible for the third-party management compliance and information security requirements as it relates to the network of law firms supporting Legal.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulating and recommending solutions and improvements designed to enhance the program and align with overall company strategy and industry best practices

  • Developing and disseminating reporting and data analysis to optimize outside counsel spend and performance and performing spend and budget data analysis, as appropriate

  • Preparing and delivering presentations and reporting to Accountable Executives on third party oversight and governance-related topics

  • Develop and implement metrics to track supplier performance and risk

  • Deliver audit requests and Legal Department projects as needed

  • Developing and maintaining training materials, process documentation and other resources related to outside counsel management processes, ensuring that Legal Department individuals and business associates are appropriately trained and adhering to expectations of the process

  • Managing outside counsel billing related activities supporting Legal: Review, processing and approval of invoices, timekeeper rates, resolution of complex billing issues and responding to billing and payment inquiries

  • Owning daily management and operations within the Legal Department electronic billing system (TeamConnect), including training associates, onboarding suppliers, maintaining procedural documentation, and creating legal matters through workflow management process

  • Independently managing a high volume of emails and calls related to law firm management both from internal and external contacts through a shared mailbox

  • Partnering with the Legal Department's Information Security team to ensure compliance with data and information security requirements

  • Collaborating with Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM) to ensure execution of Third Party Management requirements for Legal suppliers

  • Cross-functionally partner with larger team on third party oversight-related deliverables

  • Managing multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 2 years of legal operations, supplier management, process management or risk management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of legal operations, supplier management, process management or risk management

  • Relevant risk, process, or program management certification(s)

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Must be proactive with exceptional attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels, including when working with sensitive and confidential matters

  • Ability to multi-task accurately, while demonstrating flexibility with changing priorities

This role is hybrid meaning associates typically spend about half their time (2-3 days per week) in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Monday and Fridays are enterprise- wide virtual work days. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our beautifully-designed team areas.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $99,500 - $113,600 for Sr. Risk Associate

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
