The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps & Shelter located in O'Fallon, Missouri, is looking for a Social Services Receptionist/Office Clerk. Under the direct supervision of the Corps Officer, the Social Services Secretary will perform general office duties to include but not limited to typing, filing, answering, and routing telephone calls, maintain files, and other general office clerical duties. Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies, and standards. This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.

This is a 20 hour a week, part-time position that pays $13.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

  • Answers phones and takes messages; directs calls to proper persons.
  • Facilitate initial intake interviews with clients and complete intake form for clients needing assistance.
  • Monitor and maintain food pantry sign-ins, and compile list for Case Manager daily.
  • Maintain a daily tally sheet on incoming calls pertaining to emergency assistance and assist in preparing monthly reports.
  • Maintain and complete data entry for each client.
  • Attend regular trainings and meets pertaining to Social Services, as requested by Case Manager.
  • Schedule appointments with Case Manager for financial assistance requests.
  • Provide client referrals to outside agencies based on client need.
  • When necessary, assist in stocking shelves for food pantry prior to opening.
  • Maintain confidentiality, proper client boundaries and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High School or equivalent diploma with one year work experience.
  • Combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Position requires effective communication skills to greet the public.
  • Cooperative spirit with co-workers.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse and difficult personalities.
  • Must maintain client confidentiality.



Physical and Working Conditions



  • Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc.
  • Some lifting will be necessary while stocking pantry; regularly lifts to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
