This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.

Purpose

This position will provide physical security to the University. By bringing your expertise in this field, you will directly impact one of the nation's premier institutions of higher learning and research. You will help us further our mission to provide the highest level of support to the students, faculty, and staff at the University.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise in the installation, repair and maintenance of building access control, intrusion, video, and intercom devices. Driving university owned vehicles to job sites will occasionally be required for this position. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 Section 4.3.b.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and test data cable and wiring, electronic door locks, access card readers, door position switches, requests to exit detectors, CCTV cameras and other security systems related hardware.
  • Perform in field testing of the installed hardware and resolve hardware failures quickly and efficiently.
  • Support systems preventative maintenance programs to ensure reliable and efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with campus police, building owners and campus management for installation and maintenance projects.
  • May assist with time and material estimates and on-the-job training.
  • Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience installing commercial, integrated access control and security systems
  • Understanding of physical access control system components.
  • Understanding of security camera installation best practices.
  • Experience with and understanding of networked video management systems.
  • Ability to read/understand a design construction document.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, power tools in support of security and CCTV installations.
  • Have experience with Microsoft based tools, such as word, excel, outlook and teams.
  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED.

Understanding of Physical access control components and how they relate to.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electronics or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience installing commercial fire alarm and integrated security systems
  • VMS certifications such as Milestone, Omnicast, Avigilon
  • PACS software certifications such as Genetec, Lenel/S2, CCure
  • Relevant hardware certifications such as Axis, Assa Abloy, HID
Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing). The driving record will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle.

Salary Range

$54,000 + depending on qualifications.

Work Shift

Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm. On-call work required (rotated weekly with 5 other technicians). Occasional special events support required on weekends (during large campus events).
