HR GENERALIST

Gorman & Company is looking for a part-time HR Generalist to work with one of our hotel locations in Rockford, Illinois. This position will work up to 24 hours per week, and will be responsible for recruiting, orientation, employee relations, culture/events, and employee recognition and retention. This position will be a hybrid position (some remote/some onsite). You will also be part of our amazing Corporate HR Team, dedicated to providing first class service to the team members at Gorman & Company!

The hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, the HR Generalist will be required to work a varying schedule to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, this is a hospitality business, and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times.

This position reports to the Vice President of Human Resources, retains relationships with peers and all other departments within the company, maintains relationships with current and prospective team members, and maintains relationships with guests, suppliers, vendors, and others serving the Company.

As an HR Generalist, you will be:

Recruiting:


  • Responsible for recruiting for a hotel location.
  • Job description maintenance for the hotel.
  • Receives job requests in ATS and posts positions.
  • Conducts in-take call with hiring manager.
  • Creates engaging job postings using search engine optimization (SEO) key words.
  • Researches and posts jobs to other sites and finds alternative ways to sources candidates (Craig's List, social media sites, etc.).
  • May work with outside recruiting firms as needed.
  • Creates, distributes, and posts printable job ad flyers as needed.
  • Creates phone interview templates by position.
  • May utilize LinkedIn and Indeed resume searches for management level roles.
  • May review resumes and conduct phone interviews (as needed).
  • Builds rapport with applicants. "Sell" the company.
  • Works with hiring managers to stay on top of applicant flow.
  • May schedule and participate in interviews with hiring managers (as needed).
  • Sends Predictive Index assessments to candidates.
  • Sends rejection letters to candidates in ATS.
  • Processes and sends offer letters in ATS.
  • Completes background checks, education checks, and references for new hires.
  • Transfers new hire to HRIS and sends first day email to the new hire with agenda, flyer, and calendar invite.
  • Schedules, manages, and attends career fairs as needed.



Orientation of new hires:


  • Assists the hiring managers in preparing for the new team member's first day.
  • Processes and completes pending new hire in HRIS, collects and completes I-9 entries.
  • Hosts monthly HR orientation day for all new hires.



Team Member Relations:


  • First point of contact for team members at the hotel.
  • Responds to team member questions and concerns.
  • Answers basic questions on benefits (elevated questions go to the Benefits Administrator).
  • Conducts 30-day check-in with new hires.
  • Assists hotel managers with culture initiatives, event coordination, and team member recognition. Coordinates birthday and anniversary celebrations as needed.
  • Works on team member retention ideas, plans, and initiatives.
  • PCF Management: Ensures managers submit PCFs to corporate HR.
  • Handles team member relations issues with team members and managers.
  • Assists with conducting investigations as needed working with the Senior HR Manager and VP of HR.
  • Works with the Senior HR Manager for elevated team member relations issues and terminations.
  • Processes termination paperwork and conducts exit interviews.
  • Communicates company and human resources policies, procedures, programs and laws to managers and team members at location(s).
  • Ensures labor law posters are posted and up to date at hotel location(s).
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP of Human Resources.


HR Generalist Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related degree is required.
  • One to five years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist.
  • Experience in all areas of human resources including recruiting, orientation, employee relations, benefits, performance management, training and development, and employment laws.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ethical and able to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience working with an ATS and HRIS.



Pay & Benefits:


  • Part-time role working up to 24 hours per week
  • Salaried role (Pay equivalent to $28.00 to $36.00 per hour)
