THE POSITION

Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a child? A County Social Casework Internship just might be for you! The Allegheny County office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) has an opportunity for you to experience a small introduction into the field of being a full-time Caseworker. Join our team of dedicated professionals as we work to provide support to strengthen families and prevent out-of-home placement in Allegheny County.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is professional social casework training performed under a structured internship program in a local county government agency such as Children, Youth and Families and/or a Human Service Agency. The incumbent completes a six (6) month internship providing formal and on-the-job training and experience. Under supervision, you will elicit information from clients to aid them in obtaining a variety of social services to include: placement of children and adults in foster and adoptive homes and day care centers, supportive counseling to adults and children w/mental disabilities, and counseling and assistance in such specialized areas as home and money management, housing, child care and child rearing, employment, living arrangements for children and adolescents and individuals with physical, mental or developmental disabilities.

In this role, you will support the caseworker staff in all duties including but not limited to:
*Conducting Safety and Risk Assessments, investigations and home visits
*Removing and placing children
*Referring clients to appropriate services
*Conducting collateral calls, teaming meetings, and attending staff meetings
*Meeting with Agency support staff to decide the best plan of action for client concerns, etc.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, Internship.
  • Work hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or other related behavioral science, and completion of 75 credits, including completion of 15 credits in one of the listed majors.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
