AI Platform Engineer

We are seeking an AI Platform Engineer to provide expert knowledge in the realm of AI and ML systems, enabling scientiststs and engineers in pioneering research endeavors. This person will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation, optimization and performance of our AI-driven products and services for advanced research.

As an AI Platform Engineer, you will:

• Lead the technical development of an emerging enterprise AI inference service.
• Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to deploy machine learning models for enterprise use.
• Optimize AI models, workflows and system performance by conducting analysis and benchmarks to address bottlenecks.
• Operate and enhance software and infrastructure for scalable and reliable AI inference.
• Stay up-to-date with latest advancements in AI inference technologies and best practices.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

• Hold a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent years of related professional work experience.
• Have 3+ years scripting and programming skills with Python.
• Have 1+ experience with AI/ML frameworks and libraries such as Tensorflow, PyTorch or MXNet.
• Have 1+ year experience using container-based orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes) and run-time environments (e.g. Docker).
• Solid understanding of inferencing with foundation models including LLMs.
• Demonstrate ability to investigate and resolve moderately complex problems using current job knowledge, research data and external resources.
• Able to work effectively with leadership to prioritize competing tasks.
• Demonstrate solid communication and listening skills within a collaborative team environment.
• Ambitious to learn, effectively plan and organize work, seek and share knowledge on a continuous basis.
• Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

• Experience securing Linux/UNIX and Cloud native applications.
• Experience with AI/ML model deployment and management platform (e.g:- MLflow, Kubeflow).
• Have experience with nVidia inferencing technologies including accelerator hardware and Triton inference platform.
• Experience with data management and processing technologies (Apache SPARK, Hadoop).
• Familiarity with cloud computing platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Knowledge of MLOps, Agile and DevOps processes.

Special Working Conditions:

Occasional weekend and other after-hours work may be required to handle and/or complete critical work to meet APL's business needs.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
