Job Description

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work safely. Adhere to all Company and regulatory EH&S policies and procedures. Look for safety issues and notify leadership of all safety concerns.
  • Adhere to all Company 6-S initiatives and policies.
  • Prepares samples and performs routine mechanical tests and analysis including casting specimens and test bars, heat treatment as required, specimen machining, tensile and hardness testing, coordinating certification creep and stress rupture testing at outside facilities, maintaining records of test results and specimens, and entering requests and results in the GLOVIA system.
  • Conducts Airmelt heat review and certification.
  • Responsible for all aspects of micrographic examinations including mount preparation, metallographic polishing and examination, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) analysis, photo documentation, and retention of mounts.
  • Conducts routine and experimental heat treatment conducted in house.
  • Provides assistance, as required, on special projects and assignments involving the Technology Dept., e.g. new products/new CM proprietary superalloys.
  • Assists with inventory, maintenance and cleanliness of metallography, mechanical testing, casting and heat treatment areas and equipment.
  • Produces /casts specialty heats (5-15#) of test bars and specimens.
  • Radon testing of incoming W Lots and inter-granular attack if assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience

Two-year degree in cast metals technology or a related field of study, and/or ten (10) years of related experience in mechanical and metallographic testing procedures.

  • Strong analytical and reasoning ability.
  • Detail and accuracy oriented.
  • Technical aptitude.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proof of US citizenship, nationality, and/or permanent resident status in order to comply with all applicable export and import laws and regulations.
