Position Summary

Position Summary

Responsible for overseeing the collection, storage and interpretation of data for businesses. Their duties include sifting through data points to create organized categories, comparing data points to current company processes and writing reports outlining business predictions or proposals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional technical writing skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way.

  • Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with data management tools.

  • Ability to work independently and with team members from diverse backgrounds

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of statistical programming languages like R, , and database query languages like , Hive, Pig is desirable. Familiarity with Scala, , or is an added advantage.

  • Good applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc.

  • Proficiency in statistics is essential for data-driven companies.

  • Strong Math Skills (Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra) - understanding the fundamentals of Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra is important as they form the basis of a lot of predictive performance or algorithm optimization techniques.

  • Proficiency in handling imperfections in data is an important aspect of a data scientist job description.

  • Experience with like matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js., Tableau that help to visually encode data.

  • Excellent communication skills - it is incredibly important to describe findings to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • Strong Software Engineering Background.

  • Hands-on experience with data science tools.

  • Problem-solving aptitude.

  • Analytical mind and great business sense.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree plus five (5) years' experience in related field. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field is preferred.

  • Proven Experience as Data Analyst or Data Scientist.

  • Official transcripts are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collecting data through means such as analyzing business results or by setting up and managing new studies.

  • Transferring data into a new format to make it more appropriate for analysis.

  • Creating new, experimental frameworks to collect data.

  • Building tools to automate data collection.

  • Searching through large data sets for usable information.

  • Creating reports and presentations for business uses.

  • Correlating similar data to find actionable results.

  • Data mining or extracting usable data from valuable data sources.

  • Using to select features, create and optimize classifiers.

  • Carrying out preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.

  • Enhancing procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems.

  • Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to be used for analysis.

  • Analyzing large amounts of information to find patterns and solutions.

  • Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms.

  • Presenting results in a clear manner.

  • Propose solutions and strategies to tackle business challenges.

  • Collaborate with Business and IT teams.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
