The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Budget Operations and Analysis, the Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in facilitating the administration and coordination of financial and operational functions throughout the entire life cycle and progression of degree programs. The role oversees various operational tasks, with a special emphasis on student billing and account management, accounts payable, and providing crucial support for operating budgets totaling $13+ million.

Responsibilities



  • Manages the Third-Party Billing process for incoming EMBA students, ensuring proper account setup with Student Financial Services, as well as proper billing to all enrolled EMBA-NY and CBS-billed EMBA-Global students.
  • Manages and monitors student accounts, ensuring billing codes are updated when necessary, and communicating regularly with students regarding account balances and registration holds. This involves regular liaising with CBS' office of Financial Aid and Student Financial Services.
  • Monitors Curriculum & Programs' departmental budgets weekly, comparing budgets against actual expenses, identifying, and rectifying any miscoded expenses for operating budgets totaling $13+ million..
  • Provides financial management for the Curriculum & Programs departments. This includes, but not limited to: accounts payables, including invoices, expense reports, and purchase orders; journal entries; deposit invoices; refunds; faculty travel stipends; tuition prepayment; late fee waivers; credit card reconciliation; cash and check management; and tuition prepayment.
  • Works with the Director on the partnership expense reconciliation and close of budgets at the end of each fiscal year.
  • Communicates with the Business School Offices of Financial Planning, Operations, Information Technology Group, Multimedia, and other departments as necessary in relation to logistics of operating degree programs on campus, ensuring smooth facilities and building operations as needed.
  • Performs other duties and supports program activities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Education: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. 2-4 years related work experience, preferably in an operations and financial management capacity.
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with partners, faculty, and other individuals critical to successful running of degree programs.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess and display good judgment in decisions and interactions involving students and/or faculty members.
  • Initiator and self-motivator who requires minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Must be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • An ability to work independently with changing priorities a must.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of database management and Columbia University's ARC system is required.
