Position Summary: Children's Aid P.O.W.E.R program is seeking a passionate Prevention Specialist to work with adolescents and families at our centers and schools. The Prevention Specialist will facilitate Evidenced Based Programs (EBPs) such as Strengthening Families Program (SFP), SPORT, Teen Intervene and other EBPs. The candidate should have strong facilitation skills and a background in working adolescents and families that are high risk.

CA P.O.W.E.R program funded by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) seeks to educate children and youth on the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drug use. The P.O.W.E.R program delivers evidence-based programs (EBPs) and positive alternatives to prevent and reduce alcohol and substance use utilizing the prevention framework.

Essential Duties :



  • Facilitate Evidenced Based Programs (EBP).
  • Recruit and retain youth and families for prevention services.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans for all evidenced based and non- evidenced based programs.
  • Support and provide services to at risk youth.
  • Provide individual counseling, intervention and make referrals as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of programs and projects.
  • Administer pre/post -test evaluations.
  • Utilize database to record program attendance and demographics.
  • Prepare all reports including input to the daily/monthly OASAS reports.
  • Organize and provide presentations to community agencies, schools and other stakeholders on prevention services.
  • Provide prevention information at local health fairs and community events
  • Adhere to policy and procedures of CA
  • In-person collaboration is an essential function of the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor and/or Children's Aid.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • CPP, CPS and or CASAC Required
  • High School Diploma Required
  • 3-5 years' experience working with adolescents and families


Key Competencies:



  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft, Excel
