Job Purpose

To develop and integrate short and long-term strategies, perform analyses, develop plans, and oversee their execution for the reinforcement and reliability of the National Grid gas system from the interstate natural gas pipelines' supply points to our customers' service laterals. This includes support to the operating departments regarding the proposed winter operation of the gas system, day-to-day operations, and emergency conditions.

Key Accountabilities

Prepare engineering studies and computerized network analyses utilizing Synergi gas network software to determine the capability of National Grid's US gas infrastructure to deliver gas to its customers under normal, contingency, and peak conditions.

* Prepare 5/10-year capital reinforcement and reliability construction plans, model verification & winter performance reports, and annual winter operations reports. This includes developing long term planning and operating models at various temperatures to ensure that customer loads can be supported under all conditions. Prepare and present Complex Capital Delivery project gate checklists and project sanctioning papers to secure approval for assigned programs and specific projects. Provide identification and oversight of Gas System Strategic Planning sponsored programs and special projects in the Capital by Category business plan and projected year end spend reports. Utilize Copperleaf C55 software to capture and maintain capital projects for risk scoring, project ranking, and to assist with plan optimization.

* Participate in the review and sizing of National Grid's facilities in conjunction with public works construction, leak-prone pipe replacement programs, pressure regulation station programs, and integrity programs to maximize the benefits of all work performed under all programs toward achieving system needs and goals.

* Assist in developing, implementing, and revising demand response programs, non-pipeline alternatives, renewable natural gas projects, and emerging technologies as needed in harmony with the overall system and operational needs and in compliance with applicable regulations and codes.

* Perform studies of proposed system expansion with consideration given to service reliability, safety, system operation, and engineering economics. This includes the preparation of reports covering recommended and alternate plans to satisfy load growth and reliable system operation.

* Monitor, investigate, and analyze the capability of the gas system to meet customer loads. Provide operational assistance and recommendations to Instrumentation & Regulation, Gas Control, and Gas Supply in analyzing peak and contingency conditions. Analyze and monitor the gas distribution system performance to recommend corrective action, identify trends, and continuously improve the reliability of the system.

  • Able to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve asset performance and efficiency.
Qualifications

Previous gas transmission and distribution or similar system planning experience utilizing Synergi gas or similar network modeling software is highly desirable.

* Knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues, safety policies, and potential hazards concerning the natural gas industry are highly desirable.

* Ability to build collaborative networks across multiple geographies and sites is required.

* High proficiency in computer, communication, and writing skills required.

* Ability to coordinate and work on multiple projects from sponsorship through execution is required.

* Knowledge of Federal DOT and State Codes related to the T&D of natural gas as well as applicable industry codes is desirable.

* A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is a minimum requirement. Gas industry experience, advanced degree, and/or E.I.T. is desirable.

Salary - $97,000 - $114,000
