REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Community Relations and Outreach Intern.
General Description
Performs support duties in an agency in order to gain knowledge, skills and professional experience. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures. Work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a degree-seeking program from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to area of assignment.

OR

Able to meet the qualifications of a County Commission and Human Resources approved internship or apprenticeship program

Special Certifications and Licenses

Preferences

Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, Public Administration, Community Relations or Journalism
Administrative Assistant Certification
Social Media Certification
Microsoft Office / Office 365 Certification
Adobe Certification
3+ years of experience in data analytics
2+ years of advance experience using Excel
1+ years of experience using Eventbrite, Formsite or other event planning scheduling tool
3+ years of Social Media or Digital Marketing and Communications experience including using web-based, social media analytics and management applications like Sprout Social.
3+ years of graphic design experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

The successful Intern will be professional, motivated, resourceful, and energetic. The intern will be responsible for large volume of data entry and data management and have considerable knowledge of administrative and clerical duties such as using Microsoft Office / Office 365, gathering and organizing data to provide information for section special projects or reports. Intern will also assist in preparing written reports and conducting dialogue with clients or County personnel to obtain basic information for agency use. Support the community relations and outreach team.

* May perform a variety of duties in order to gain skills and professional experience. These duties may include but are not limited to the following: graphic design of marketing materials, managing event logistics, entering and analyzing performance metrics, generating reports, collaborating with small business and economic development sections on projects.

* Assist Section Manager with other various tasks such as managing the community calendars, maintaining logs, managing spreadsheets and reports, mailbox monitoring, creating documents, taking meeting notes, creating and managing websites, social media, or databases, as well as writing correspondence, etc.

* Assembles and summarizes material from files; cross-references data and locates information requested by general instructions from the supervisor; composes correspondence or selects appropriate form letter reply; keeps various activity and production records which may involve assembling reports from other sections of the department.

* Must have excellent computer/typing, communications, analytical, and interpersonal skills and be detail oriented and follow-up skills, self-motivated, able to multi-task, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and take initiative.

* Assist with special events with the back end administrative duties such as scheduling, data entry and and helping with the set up for the business development and training events. Monitor social media channels and all email in-boxes.

* Generate reports by querying a customized database. Provide administrative support to the Section Manager, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and managing the event master calendar.

* Assist employees in other locations by maintaining and reporting section staff schedules for agency master calendar, relaying instructions and requesting information needed by supervisor. Provides administrative support to agency. Performs related work as assigned.
Intern must have the ability to:
*Conduct research, assemble data, use Adobe or Canva graphic design software, prepare reports and utilize various computer programs.
*Organize and coordinate multiple, time-sensitive assignments, and maintain work records
*Independently and efficiently manage one's time, meet tight deadlines, attention to detail, follow-up skills and balance competing priorities.
*Display excellent communication skills verbally and in writing with all levels of individuals both internal and external with good grammar and spelling.
*Display exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to carry out responsibilities, including gatekeeper roles, while maintaining excellent rapport and positive relations with internal and external contacts.
*Develop new social media campaigns, considering current and planned promotional activities

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
