Overview

The Center for Cancer Systems Biology (CCSB) in the Department of Cancer Biology has an immediate opening for a Scientist 1 position with a PhD in biology or related field and post-doctoral research experience to join CCSB and contribute to ongoing work in all facets of network biology including functional testing of novel protein-protein interactions and experimentally investigating novel mechanisms of action of therapeutic compounds for human diseases, particularly cancer.

CCSB carries out high throughput cloning of human protein-coding open reading frames and uses those resources to extensively map direct protein-protein interactions and uses those resources and information to profile functional differences between wild type proteins and single amino acid substitutions of variants provisionally associated to human disease. In addition, CCSB is investigating novel therapeutic interventions based on perturbing the function of protein complexes independently of classical inhibition of enzymatic activities of traditional drug targets.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

We are looking to hire someone that is highly motivated, interactive, and a flexible team player; with proficient knowledge in biological pathway and human genomic variation data, eager to learn and willing to adapt to new challenges. The applicant needs to be familiar with experimental as well as computational methods for the generation and analysis of protein interaction data. The successful candidate will contribute to both the experimental and computational efforts, working with all team members to advance projects efficiently in a highly interdisciplinary environment. As this position will also require training new staff in cloning and protein-interaction mapping, past experience mentoring interns and junior level staff is highly desirable.

Qualifications

A PhD in Biology or Molecular Biology plus at least five years postdoctoral experience with a strong background in yeast and mammalian genetics and cancer biology is required.

Experience in yeast genetic engineering, mammalian cell culture, assay development including viability assays, drug sensitivity assays, and DNA repair assays highly is essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a track-record of co-authorship of peer-reviewed manuscripts and training/mentoring junior staff is highly desirable.

This is position is for twelve months with the possibility of being continued pending availability of funding.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.
