General Information:

The Department of Engineering at James Madison University (JMU) anticipates hosting a Visiting Professor in a 1-year (AY 2024/2025), non-renewable and non-tenure track position, to start in August 2024.

The JMU Department of Engineering is a community of educators striving to enable its diverse faculty, staff, and students to achieve broad successes in teaching and learning, scholarship and entrepreneurship, and service to others. The department offers an ABET-accredited BS degree in engineering. Anchored in the liberal arts through the university's general education program, JMU's engineering major is characterized by experiential learning of engineering as an intradisciplinary practice. The vision of the department is to nurture project-ready engineers who know how to make things happen, an approach recognized in national rankings and networks for engineering education. The department currently has 14 full-time faculty members representing many different engineering disciplines, five support staff, and approximately 550 students. Its strengths include dedicated faculty and staff, an engaged and invested student body and alumni, strong administrative and lab support, and well-equipped laboratories and design studios. JMU prizes collaboration among academic units and provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary, team-based teaching and scholarship, with a strong focus on undergraduate research opportunities. Duties and Responsibilities:

We seek to host a Visiting Professor who will support our mission by teaching undergraduate engineering courses in the areas of introduction to engineering, statics, mechanics, circuits, and/or engineering management.

The position will be ten-month, non-renewable, non-tenure track. Although the position will be primarily focused on teaching, there is opportunity for scholarship, professional development, and service to the department, college, and university.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have a doctorate, or expect completion of their doctorate in engineering or a closely related field by the anticipated start date.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate potential to emerge as agile and adaptive educators.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
