Town of Lexington We are currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time (40 hrs/wk) position: Crew Leader (also known as Leadman) Department of Public Works Complete Hourly Range: $25.19 to $30.60 per hour with excellent health, dental and leave benefits The REQUIRED Town of Lexington application form must be received in the Town's Human Resource Department by Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Scope of Work This position assists in and supervises the activities of a small crew engaged primarily in performing unskilled and semi-skilled tasks. Supervision Received Superintendent or other Department Management Personnel. Exercised Supervises semi-skilled and unskilled personnel. Essential Job Functions * Supervises and assists in the installation and maintenance of roads, curbing, catch basins, water services, sewer connections, water mains, water meters, hydrants, drain connections, laying of pipe, patch work, cement work, signs and other general construction and maintenance work. * May supervise and assist in the repair of pipe leaks, sewer stoppages and minor repairs to equipment. * May supervise and assist in the care of cemeteries parks, pools, playgrounds, playing fields and other public areas. * May supervise and assist in snow removal operations. * Assists in the evaluation process for crewmembers. * Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations. * Follows safe work practices. Other Job Functions * Performs related duties as assigned. Requirements of Work Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) plus additional technical or specialized training, including or supplemented by at least 4 years of public works experience in maintenance and repairs, commercial or residential construction, mechanical maintenance and repair, or other field related to assigned division and activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills: Knowledge of * Departmental policies, procedures and practices. * The operational, maintenance and repair activities required for assigned area. * Applicable rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and safety standards that govern the performance of the duties being performed. * Occupational hazards and the methods and techniques used to avoid or minimize risks. * Town of Lexington policies and procedures. Ability to * Develop and administer work plans, policies and procedures. * Understand and follow oral and written instructions. * Communicate clearly and concisely. * Supervise the work of others. * Perform light to heavy physical tasks under varying weather conditions. * Operate vehicles, tools and equipment relevant to assigned operations. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, residents and the general public. Skill in * Identifying and preventing work hazards. * The operation of heavy trucks, vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools used in assigned operations. Necessary Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver's license; Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement; Massachusetts Class 2B Hoisting License Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
