Job Description:

The Role:

Our site in Decatur, Texas is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team. This critical role supports operations and the Business Unit through the establishment of automation for conventional machining equipment in various cells within the machining operations. This position will define the steps, processes, and requirements needed to utilize robotics, and other automation equipment enabling increased efficiency within the machine shop.

This person will lead a team that will work with the design and prototype team (NPD) to establish testing required, and then work with the Operations team to implement these systems into the HVM production environments.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the management team, consisting of Business Unit and Operations management to define goals and targets of efficiency desired through the automation of various cells and work centers within the machine shop.

  • Take the definition laid out by the management team and develop an action plan with metrics and dates, to achieve these goals. The culmination will be a pro-forma business case highlighting the efficiencies to be realized and the financial impacts of the project.

  • Lead the cell/system design discussions with integrators and internal teams, and coordinate installation and V&Q activities.

  • Further define processes and requirements as well as a test and implementation schedule. Testing will be conducted in the Customer Rapid Response Lab (CRRL) and implemented in the HVM machine shop.

  • As new processes and equipment are implemented, will report on progress, successes, issues, and obstacles and compare to the original targets and metrics. Reporting to be accomplished monthly as required by management.

  • Will lead the definition and implementation of a cross functional team.

What We Seek:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other related field

  • 5+ years experience in robotics or automation

  • Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and automation safety standards

  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • Strong planning, organization, and analytical skills

  • Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience using Solidworks and Studio 5000

  • Ability to work on projects in cross-functional manner

  • Ability to research, identify, and gain access to decision makers, and gain insight through targeted questioning and active listening.

  • Experience in working in an ISO 9000/14000 environment a plus;

  • Candidate must have the capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control law
