POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Volunteer Services is a key leader within Boston Medical Center, responsible for fostering community engagement and driving program development initiatives. This role entails overseeing the volunteer program, establishing strategic partnerships, and implementing innovative initiatives to enhance volunteer experiences and support the hospital's mission.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Strategic Leadership:


  • Develop and execute strategic plans to expand and enhance the volunteer program, aligning with the hospital's objectives.
  • Provide visionary leadership to inspire and engage volunteers, staff, and community partners in achieving programmatic excellence.

Community Engagement:


  • Cultivate positive relationships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to recruit volunteers and promote volunteer opportunities.
  • Collaborate with community leaders to identify emerging needs and develop responsive volunteer programs addressing health and social issues.

Volunteer Recruitment and Management:


  • Create comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of volunteers, including retirees, students, professionals, and community members.
  • Implement effective training, orientation, and supervision processes to ensure volunteers are well-prepared and supported.

Program Development and Innovation:


  • Identify opportunities for program expansion and enhancement based on community needs and volunteer feedback.
  • Design and implement innovative programs to maximize the impact of volunteer services and enhance patient and visitor experiences.

Performance Measurement and Evaluation:


  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of volunteer programs.
  • Conduct regular evaluations to monitor program outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or nonprofit leadership, preferably in healthcare.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Proven track record of success in developing volunteer programs and building community partnerships.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead change initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
