Overview:

Our client, a well-known and established engineering, surveying, and planning firm, seeks a Long-Range Senior Planner to join their growing team. The ideal candidate acts as a project manager on a variety of independent and team activities in current and long-range planning and policy projects in the Pacific Northwest. The Long-Range Senior Planner is accomplished in their ability to interpret, administer, and enforce land use regulations. This is a long-term, direct hire role located in Seattle, WA.

Pay range: $90,000 - $110,000

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze planning issues, including interpretation of the Growth Management Act, SEPA and other regulations
  • Collaborate in the drafting of zoning ordinance and comprehensive plan amendments related to land use
  • Support other planners on resolving code comprehensive plan policies or conflicting provisions
  • Conduct development application review process to determine permit application completeness and conformance with comprehensive plans as well as applicable policies, regulations, and code
  • Evaluate and inspect properties to determine physical characteristics and compatibility with adjacent land uses
  • Provide technical assistance and training related to code interpretation and amendments to department staff and customers
  • Stay up to date on state, regional, and local land use regulation changes that may affect municipal codes and comprehensive planning
  • Review draft policies, narratives, and municipal code prepared by other planners
  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with current and potential clients
  • Oversee project budgets
  • Oversee and direct planning staff
  • Participate in hiring and employee goal setting in coordination with leadership
  • Prepare staff reports and present information at public meetings and hearings
  • Coordinate public meetings and outreach efforts for projects
  • Research jurisdictional requirements, codes, and policies
  • Responsible for jurisdictional forms and applications
  • Prepare RFP/RFQ for planning and engineering projects
  • Produce GIS maps
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants on design services
  • Prepare complex technical reports
  • Prepare project narratives and response letters for complex applications
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of land use, comprehensive plans and project management processes, principles and practices of land use planning and public policy
  • Perform in-depth research and analysis to justify and explain proposed long range planning goals, objectives, and policies to a diverse group of stakeholders

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience of long-range planning experience, required
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, economics, environmental sciences, geography, planning, or political science, required
  • Solid background experience in planning, required
  • High level of ability to read, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies, required
  • Detail-oriented, organized, multi-tasking and good follow-through skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Planning experience in municipalities in Washington, preferred
  • American Institute Of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification, preferred
