Providence is calling a Student Intern, Communications who will:



  • Help keep our 24,000 caregivers engaged and informed by writing and publishing compelling stories online and in email newsletters.
  • Work independently in writing and publishing news stories and event announcements, including photo/artwork selection.
  • Learn editing and approval workflows.
  • Develop critical thinking required for story development and artistic direction.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned projects


Important skills for this position include:



  • Excellent written and verbal communication, targeted to the appropriate audience, with a flair for engaging readers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, for interviewing health care workers, working with internal clients, and engaging with the larger communication team.
  • Skill in editing and proofreading using AP style and an internal style guide, or aptitude with a willingness to learn.
  • Skill in electronic publishing, or aptitude with a willingness to learn. We use Microsoft SharePoint for intranet, and an intelligent communication platform called First up to publish news stories.
  • Skill in photo/artwork selection and in editing using Adobe Photoshop, or aptitude with a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and follow through on assigned tasks to meet deadlines, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and O365/Teams


Please note the following important details regarding this role:



  • We welcome remote work for residents who live within a daily commutable distance of our office location listed below:
  • Oregon: Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington Counties
  • Washington: Clark County
  • This role is a part time, temporary role
  • This role is intended to be a summer position for a current undergraduate college student
  • The successful applicant for this position will be employed for a duration of time during the Summer of 2024
  • The program will last 10 weeks and is anticipated to end around 8/30/2024, however, this may change based upon an actual start date for the role and department needs
  • This position will require minimal in office time as defined by manager and department needs


Required qualifications for this position include:



  • Coursework/Training: Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, with completion of at least two years of post-secondary education or an Associate degree


Preferred qualifications for this position include:



  • Coursework/Training: Enrolled in public relations or communications degree program or related field
  • News writing experience
  • Public relations experience
  • Health care industry experience
