PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The CD Electrical Controls Leader is a key leadership role for delivering outcomes that are aligned with two of Owens Corning business units' strategic capital portfolios. Common duties for this role will be leading the definition of new application requirements, updating existing applications based on functional requirements, and the technical and professional development of team members. A successful Electrical Controls Leader provides leadership through efficient management of resources, synchronization of project management concepts and effective communication to all stake holders are central accountabilities to this role.

Reports to: Global Capital Delivery Electrical Engineering Leader

Span of control: 4-5 direct reports.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership - Lead by example; ensuring the successful delivery of the project outcomes in the portfolio



  • Lead and engage teams and engineers to identify and translate business needs into clear project and system specifications.
  • Apply project management expertise and other best practices/tools to define, execute, and fully own project plans from end-to-end.
  • Develop and routinely forecast project plans and project budget to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Communication - collaborate with all Leaders and guarantee clear and consistent communications to all project & business stakeholders.
  • Change Leadership - Manage the transition to ensure adoption of change, project benefits are achieved, and project outcomes are sustainable.
  • Adhere to the Project Management processes and actively prepare for/participate in all reviews and stage gate deliverables.
  • Understand Total Productive Maintenance Methodology (TPM) and follow all corporate standards.
  • This role has accountability for the scope, budget, resources, assumptions, communication, change management, training, testing, deployment, and user acceptance for the project portfolio.



Metrics



  • On-time and on-budget project delivery.
  • Implementation of all project deliverables in alignment with standards / controls, business requirements and any approved scope changes.
  • Balanced and successful resource plan for controls engineering roles.
  • Feedback from peers and project leaders (Steering Team, Track Leads, etc.).
  • Magnitude of post project metrics (Lessons Learned) - number of open issues, negative impacts to business operations / processes, etc.
  • Project is fully transitioned to Operations and Support per VSU.



Technical Depth





    • Holistic knowledge on electrical controls which will improve production methods, equipment performance, facility layout and quality of product. This leader is required to have the following technical experience:

      1. General PLC/HMI programming working knowledge
      2. Understanding of robotics, motion controls, motors, pneumatics, electronics, industrial networks (IT/OT), etc.
      3. Electrical design and understanding of P&IDs


    • Focus will be placed on partnering with operations/technical leaders to understand and solve business needs by integrating off-the-shelf solutions or developing new solutions where no-off-the shelf technology exists.
    • Leverage partnerships with best in industry vendors to drive innovation through emerging technologies.
    • Projects may be in any manufacturing plant within Owens Corning






  1. Leading and Developing Talent - Builds solid performing teams and works with all Leaders to develop and engage team members according to growth plans



  • Actively recruit and hire top talent for open positions within the organization.
  • Facilitate and create capability mapping by region- to create a clear picture of the capabilities and skills within the team and how they fit together to form a bigger strategy.
  • Lead and engage single or cross-functional project teams, which are accountable for design, development, and implementation of defined solutions.
  • Accountable for the development and alignment of all project roles and responsibilities. Ensure that the roles and responsibilities are articulated to each team member, modified as required, and accomplished throughout the project.
  • Discuss growth and development plans to ensure growth of team members.
  • Recommend and support project-specific mentoring relationships for growth areas on the project and helps to secure the commitment of the mentor/expert.
  • Provide clear feedback - both routine feedback and formal feedback.

  1. Manage Relationships with Internal & External Partners - Builds and grows external partners' capacity to augment achievement of business outcomes and provide innovative solutions to drive step change.



  • Develop upfront communication of corporate vision, objectives, and constraints.
  • Set expectations of service and performance levels.
  • Streamline organizational goals to be supporting and complimentary in nature.
  • Explore full potential of partners capabilities and skill sets and links partner ability to align with desired business outcome.
  • Plan and facilitate a seamless on-boarding plan for team members including project requirements, standards, testing procedures, templates, etc.

  • Consistent, repeatable performance on project delivery.
  • Reduction in time and cost of projects.
  • Step change innovations developed through partnership.
  • Reusable on-boarding plans for other team members and projects.
  • Adherence with established Capital Delivery processes such as FEL Deliverables, Deliverables Tracking, and Quality Assurance.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor of Science degree, Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and 7+ years in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated technical and leadership skills. Master's degree preferred.
  • Must have very broad background including hands on experience with industrial control systems as well as technical project management.
  • Travel required (25 - 40%, some global)



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Technical experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Ignition platforms.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Project Leadership - previous execution of small to large scale projects, possibly including initiatives with global reach, technology, processes, cross-functional teams and partner team members, PMI certification preferred.
  • Partner Relationships - experience with cross-functional teams that include third party expertise. Aptitude to build strategic and execution-focused plans and alliances with partner leadership.
  • Project Management Science / Capability - training and application of industry best practice processes and tools regarding the effective management of projects, including, but not limited to, scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and issue management.
  • Strong Communications - effective planning and execution of communications for stakeholders, both written and verbal
  • Business Acumen - experience with business operations; aptitude / desire to grow in the knowledge of the Owens Corning businesses; conveyance of business acumen to project team members.
  • Global Perspective -understanding of how Owens Corning operates business globally
