Job Summary

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer at our Avon Lake location supports Plant Manufacturing and Technical Operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety, flawless launch, continuous process and equipment improvement and optimization. Applies extensive knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of acceptable industry standards and practices to design, develop, upgrade and optimize processes, methodologies, equipment, and facilities in processing or manufacturing products that meet customer expectations of quality, cost and delivery. Must be a positive influence in raising the engineering team's skill set. This person must know how to excel in a rapidly changing culture, enjoy change management and have a passion for excellence.

Essential Functions



  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes ensuring alignment with industry best practices
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of existing processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost reduction, and enhanced product quality.
  • Mentor and guide junior process engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team
  • Design, develop, update, document and communicates manufacturing processes and technical parameters that meet product specifications and supports company goals of safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Evaluate and optimize processes and equipment to generate cost savings, and improve quality, efficiency and productivity
  • Prepare and validate various engineering deliverables such as manufacturing development plans, work instructions, process data sheets, equipment selection, process review and analysis reports, change management documentation, and capital improvement projects in support of operational excellence
  • Develop new processes, research emerging technologies, and execute characterization and optimization studies of current processes using design of experiments, root cause analysis, troubleshooting and decision making tools
  • 24/7 support of manufacturing lines to include identifying and resolving equipment/material/training/process issues, and coordinating activities of maintenance, quality, production and other resources to execute cost effective solutions
  • Provide subject matter expertise to other departments and technical mentorship to engineering team
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

* Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Preferred degrees in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.

* 3+ years of experience as a process engineer required - preferred in compounding and plastic pelletizing

* Hands-on process engineering experience in high volume manufacturing environment.

* Experience in plastics and/or rubber processing (compound/mix/extrusion/pelletization) preferred

* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive change

* In-depth knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices

* Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement initiatives and implementing transformative technologies

* Ability to provide strategic guidance aligning process engineering efforts with overall business objectives

* Process troubleshooting and documentation specialist

* Excellent mentorship skills

* Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude

* Timely and accurate completion of projects and assignments

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
