About the Position

Are you passionate about facilitating classes for engaging learning experiences? Are you looking for a position that allows you to use your creative skills in designing and delivering training content that makes a difference?

As a Trainer and Instructional Designer with the Department of Public Health, you will create and facilitate educational activities that will help our Public Health workforce learn skills to support the community. This role provides the opportunity to utilize your classroom facilitation skills in virtual and in-person environments, making sure the courses are participant-centered. You will also help design and develop trainings in collaboration with subject matter experts and the Department of Public Health's Learning & Development Team.

We Require

  • One year of adult-level professional development facilitation and instructional design
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Nursing or related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • One year of experience with learning development software such as Articulate 360 or equivalent
  • Completion of The Bob Pike Group trainings or equivalent courses related to adult participant-centered learning
  • Certification through the Association for Talent Development (Certified Professional in Talent Development or Associate Professional in Talent Development)

Job Contributions

  • Plans, designs, and develops training programs and materials on a wide variety of topics as requested or required by department
  • Facilitates engaging learning and development programs using participant-centered instructor-led design
  • Develops self-paced courses to be published in Maricopa County's learning management system (LMS)
  • Assists in defining key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development programs
  • Assesses the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback, pre- and post-training evaluations, and other evaluation methods
  • Uses data and assessment to continuously improve training content and delivery
  • Identifies and assesses training needs by using data that may include skills assessments, satisfaction surveys, interviews, and direct observation
  • Provides consultation and subject matter expertise in reviewing and creating learning opportunities
  • Facilitates meetings or other activities for MCDPH staff and community partners as needed
  • Participates in marketing and promotion of learning opportunities

Working Conditions

  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Work is performed in a hybrid work environment
  • Must be available for in-person training sessions and workshops as needed
  • Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
