The Laser Engineering Team in Camera Semiconductor Technologies (CST) team is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of core laser technologies being used in Face ID and LIDAR scanner for Apple products. As a key member of the Laser Engineering Team, you will be responsible for leading the laser component development by transforming the laser design concept into laser products ready for high volume mass production.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong device design, fab process and process integration experience for III-V optoelectronics devices such as VCSEL LEDs, edge-emitting lasers, photonic-crystal surface emitting lasers (PCSEL). Additional device and process background in Silicon Photonics is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge about III-V lasers/LEDs including design, process, device physics, reliability and characterization.
  • Extensive hands-on high-volume experience on modern semiconductor process technologies for III-V and Silicon devices.
  • Demonstrated success with several products transferred from engineering development phase to high volume production.
  • Excellent data analysis and problem solving skills. Strong product engineering experience such as data analysis (JMP) and writing scripts for data inquiry is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with others in a very cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong team spirit.


Description

- Work closely with internal R&D teams to design next-gen laser components and define Engineering Requirement Specs (ERS). Establish the spec correlation between laser component level and module/system level - Drive and work closely with laser component vendors to design robust process integration flow and develop the key process steps for next-generation laser products - Drive and work closely with laser component vendors to improve the device performance and yield during engineering development phase - Lead the efforts to solve reliability and performance issues related to laser components observed on module/system level during engineering development phase by working closely with internal and external teams - Review the laser device yield and performance data provided by vendors and provide approvals for engineering sample shipments - Provide regular update to internal x-functional team about performance, yield and MP readiness laser component during development phase - Drive laser vendors to develop key process technologies that are beneficial to Apple internal laser device technology roadmap - Explore and develop new laser device technologies in Apple technology roadmap by working with internal laser product definition team and external vendors

Education & Experience

BS degree and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700.00 and $300,200.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
