The Western PA School for Blind Children are searching for new Outreach Teachers within Special Education for the 2024-2025 school year!!! Located in the heart of Oakland, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is a one-of-a-kind educational experience committed to empowering our students to realize their full potential. The School also provides vital early intervention and outreach services to visually impaired students, with or without additional challenges, throughout western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1887, our School is best equipped to care for and educate students with visual impairments. As a private institution chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the School educates approximately 200 enrolled students from 80-85 school districts within western Pennsylvania. The Mission of Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is to nurture the unique abilities of individuals with blindness and visual impairment through educational excellence and a lifetime of learning.

In this role you will have a caseload of students from different local school districts around your area to assist. Though our school has a "home base" of operations your position will mainly be outside of the WPSBC itself.

Schedule:



  • Mondays-Fridays 7:45am-3:00pm OR 8:15am-3:30pm


Qualifications:



  • Current PA Department of Education certificationfor Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
  • Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Must meet requirements for state and federal criminal background checks.
  • Experience educating students with visual impairment, assistive technology, and braille skills preferred.


Responsibilities:



  • To provide direct vision instruction as an Outreach/Itinerant provider to embed and grow student skills by following School District and/or agency curriculum.
  • To consult with general education staff regarding student needs and performance throughout the school year. Collaborate with the general education team on student specific tasks and vocational experiences as appropriate.
  • To write and implement effective re-evaluation reports, IEPs, data collection, progress monitoring (graphs), instructional programs and other relevant paperwork.
  • To serve as the student case manager as requested by the district.
  • To adapt general education materials for student access. To focus on student engagement and learning while collaborating with various stakeholders within a school setting.
