National Grid is hiring a Analyst, Energy Evaluation in NY or MA

This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations in NY: Albany, Syracuse, Brooklyn, Hicksville, or Waltham, MA

Job Purpose

This job position is posted for Albany, NY, but can be based at any MA or NY location. Join a team that is responsible for supporting and driving growth in nationally recognized energy efficiency, electrification, demand response, clean transportation, and other emerging areas of focus. National Grid's Evaluation, Measurement & Verification (EM&V) team is looking for an Analyst who will contribute their technical and analytical skills to evaluating and helping to shape National Grid's energy management portfolio. The Analyst will use their knowledge of evaluation principles to direct studies of program offerings, working closely with consultants and other evaluators to characterize program performance, customer behavior and decision-making, and quantify program results. EM&V is a highly motivated and active team that works closely with internal and external stakeholders and vendors to aid customers in making their homes and businesses more efficient and reducing their impact on climate change.

Key Accountabilities
  • Apply knowledge of evaluation principles, technical and analytical skills, and overall understanding of products/programs to critically review and guide the execution of evaluation studies.
  • Manage and lead evaluation studies, including procurement of external consulting resources, oversight of study methodologies and execution, management of time and budgets, and critical review of study results.
  • Demonstrate experience with and/or understanding of measurement and verification methods, engineering reviews, impact evaluations, process studies, market assessments, and/or energy savings potential studies.
  • Ensure that study designs include appropriate statistical requirements, sample designs, survey designs, and methods to accomplish study objectives.
  • Collaborate with other program administrators, consultants, and internal and external stakeholders in designing and managing studies.
  • Effectively communicate evaluation plans, findings, and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to planning for future product and program offerings by collaborating with product managers, sales teams, marketing teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate within the EM&V team to provide leadership in shaping high-value, high-quality evaluation studies across the National Grid territories.
  • Provide research-driven insights and analysis to improve targeting and design of customer offerings.
  • Contribute to accurate tracking and reporting of energy savings for a suite of products/programs, including analyzing program data and working with information services teams to maintain and enhance systems.
  • Contribute to regulatory efforts related to program approval and results reporting, including stakeholder meetings, technical sessions, hearings, reports, information requests, and regulatory filings and plans, including technical reference manuals.
  • Create and maintain formulas and evaluation inputs used to calculate energy savings and benefits, and ensure these formulas are consistent with established methods.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of energy efficiency or energy policy professional experience is required. Alternatively, a master's and 1 year of relevant professional experience satisfies this requirement. For this role, National Grid seeks candidates with degree(s) and professional experience in energy engineering and energy policy is strongly preferred; other degrees such as mathematics/statistics, physical science, or social science can be a good fit too.
  • Certified Energy Manager certification is preferred but not required
  • Professional and/or academic experience with evaluation and/or technical aspects of energy efficiency is preferred.
  • Professional experience in energy efficiency or demand response program evaluation, planning, design, implementation, and/or local and national energy policy is beneficial.
  • Experience with procuring and managing vendors is helpful.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) are needed in this role.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, an analytical approach, and attention to detail are important for success.
  • Candidates must be able to adapt quickly to taking on new projects and working with a wide range of products and services, as well as interacting with various stakeholders.

$73,000 - $86,000 a year - Upstate, NY
$88,000 - $104,000 a year - Downstate, NY
$82,000 - $97,000 a year - Massachusetts
Salary commensurate with location and experience
