Training Director

To be successful in this role, you should have solid experience organizing trainings and designing educational curriculum.

The Training Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of the Maritime Center training programs aligned with the objective and strategy of the school. The role collaborates with industry and instructors to assess ongoing and future training and development needs as well as effectiveness of established programs. The Training Director provides engaging communications about program information to encourage participation and to highlight the value and benefits of training. The function approves new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs. The role also oversees and establishes relationships with suppliers to provide additional outside training program opportunities.

The Training Director relies on strong interpersonal and leadership skills to maintain the trust of the students. Strong organizational skills are needed to manage the specific needs of each student.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities



  • Use performance reviews and skills gap analyses to identify training needs.
  • Together with the Executive Director, establishes course curriculums and partners with industry to explore and implement on the job training opportunities.
  • Monitors all class materials and curriculum to ensure they are up to date, applied correctly, and followed consistently among all instructors.
  • Plans training programs based on the established goals of the training center.
  • Oversees learning activities, curriculum and resources.
  • Manages quarterly and annual training budgets.
  • Implements coaching sessions and mentorship programs to establish a culture of continuous learning.
  • Recommends new training methods where appropriate.
  • Familiarity with the methods and principles for designing programs to teach, train and instruct both groups and individuals, including the means of assessing the effects of training.
  • Attends industry-related association meetings and serves as a board member or volunteer in other workforce development organizations.


  • Assures that instructors receive any related periodicals as well as information for meeting times.
  • Responsible for hiring full and part time instructors and coordinates their onboarding and training.
  • Responsible for ongoing instructor evaluations, implementation of instructional changes due to evaluations and address any concerns that may arise because of student critiques.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities which include the following: planning, assigning, and directing work of subordinates; appraising their performances; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Responsible for ordering of training center supplies.
  • Responsible for assisting with student recruitment, retention, assessment and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct and implements disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment.



Requirements and skills



  • Five or more years of experience as a Training Director, Training Manager, or a related position.
  • Hands-on experience creating and implementing successful training programs.
  • BSc/MSc in Human Resources, Learning and Development, Organizational Psychology, or relevant field.
  • Familiar with working in multi-cultural environments and accustomed to working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • In-depth understanding of traditional and modern training methods.
  • Hands-on experience with project management and budgeting.
  • Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  • Candidates must be able to successfully pass a criminal history check and drug test.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; ability to work individually and within a group.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
