Job Description
Puget Sound Energy's is seeking an application support specialist with focused experience in Distribution Management Systems (DMS). Our DMS team supports a suite of advanced applications covering Distribution SCADA (D-SCADA), Outage Management (OMS), Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), Fault Location & Restoration (FLISR), an award-winning Virtual Power Plant (VPP), and a soon-to-be Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). Fundamental to all IT support roles at PSE, you will build relationships with internal customers and cross-functional IT teams. However, unlike some IT roles, this position plays a direct part in the quality, resilience, and restoration of power to our customers, as well as dynamically influencing the delivery of clean energy to our communities. Because of the system criticality, this is a role that requires on-call support 24/7. As such, you will be part of a team (currently four other people) that equally shares this on-call role. Job Responsibilities
- Diagnoses problems, develops and implements solutions for PSE's Advanced Distribution Management Systems and related systems (ADMS) without oversight from Sr. Configurators.
- Solid understanding of relevant business processes so that they can be modeled in internal systems.
- Configures moderately complex application components (analysis, design, development and implementation of solutions) based on functional requirements without supervision in the ADMS environment.
- Provides necessary coordination, facilitating interactive analysis and design sessions with representatives of business line and functional units.
- Responsible for defining scope and process to gather/establish business requirements of new developments to meet changing business needs.
- Establishes and manages project plans.
- Assists project manager in scheduling and budget tasks.
- Provides guidance to business and functional units in developing tests and training plans and materials.
- Specifies and applies testing and quality monitoring procedures.
- Writes scripts to automate tasks as appropriate to ADMS.
- Provides necessary coordination, facilitating interactive analysis and design sessions with representatives of business line and functional units.
- Has deep knowledge in at least one ADMS functional module and working knowledge in other modules.
- Resolves moderately complex production issues.
- Helps organize user training programs.
- Understands and helps implement the overall IT strategy via direct experience in tactical projects and specific user requirements.
- Participant in project initiation and defines high-level requirements.
- Is responsible for the identification and resolution of gaps in the business processes. Is involved in security/authorization set-up, user documentation, data interface design, data migration and reconciliation.
- Writes functional requirements, develops test plans, and works with production issues.
- Understands and follows project and software development methodologies and processes and may assist in aligning the process with project needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 or more years IT experience, including systems development experience in the design and development of department-wide or enterprise-wide applications.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one (specialized technical requirements as shown in technical addendum) functional module with knowledge of other modules and can resolve moderately complex production issues.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated experience in defining scope and requirements of new developments to meet changing business requirements.
- Knowledge of systems and/or business analysis design concepts. Demonstrated proficiency in the applied use of systems and process analysis tools.
- Ability to facilitate interactive design and functional specification sessions.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and conceptual skills.
- Must be a "team player" able to work with management in developing and implementing new processes and enabling systems. Able to work with end user groups to define application needs and identify feasible solutions.
- Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to motivate others and a customer-focused service attitude
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to meet objectives and effectively multi-task.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting distribution management systems including at least one of D-SCADA, OMS, FLISR, VVO, and VPP.
- Experience with Schneider Electric and AutoGrid products for distribution management.
- Understanding of the role physical field devices play in distribution management
- Experience working with Splunk for system monitoring and dashboards.
- Experience working with Power BI and/or SSRS to provide business reports and metrics.
- Experience with SQL queries for interrogating complex data structures.
- Experience with scripting of automated tasks, especially using PowerShell.
- Experience with electric network data provided from a GIS, specifically Smallworld or ESRI.
- Experience with ticket tracking and resolution, especially within ServiceNow.
- Experience working with QTest for testing management.
- Experience navigating Microsoft servers, services, and security.
- An analytical approach to problem-solving, coupled with the ability to conceptualize systems.
- Experience developing internal systems requirements as defined by the organization to allow for configuration of business rules into DMS applications.
- Experience configuring complex application components (analysis, design, development and implementation of solutions) based on functional requirements without supervision in DMS applications.
- Is NERC-certified and supports NERC and FERC standards and quality
- Strong understanding and experience within Agile methodologies.
- Experienced with aiding complex project delivery.
