The opportunity

The Information Technology Services Business Analyst, reporting to the Director of Academic Technology, will be the intermediary between the business and IT, using an understanding of business domains and technology to help partners achieve desired outcomes. You will work with business staff to understand their objectives, challenges, organizational structure, business relationships, transaction models and operational details including business procedures. The ITS Business Analyst collaborates with functional and technical staff to analyze our needs, identify and document requirements, determine solutions and draft project proposals for senior leaders to consider for approval and prioritization. They partner with multiple organizations on initiatives, lead discussions to translate our requirements into system changes/functional specifications and facilitate conversations to identify potential solutions. You will also participate in the testing and validation of solutions delivering on the approved requirements enabling the desired outcomes. The ITS Business Analyst must be comfortable leading meetings, driving communication and working. The ITS Business Analyst will work on complex projects which have operational impact, and potentially strategic impact, to one or more organizations. This role can be 100% Remote. #LI-Remote

What you'll do:

  • You will maintain understanding of the business and technical capabilities and constraints of the applicable software and platforms; use depth of knowledge of OOTB capabilities to minimize custom code requirements.
  • You will plan and perform scoping, requirements definition and prioritization activities using selected methods and tools (predictive, Agile).
  • You will conduct interviews and facilitate group sessions with business and technology partners to elicit, analyze and document requirements.
  • You will obtain input from and formal agreement to goals and requirements from diverse range of partners and negotiate conflicts.
  • You will gain detailed knowledge of assigned operations and associated technology areas to identify and document potential conflicts.
  • You will document all aspects of our requirements using best practices for artifacts such as process models, use cases, epics, user stories, impact analysis, completion criteria, functional and non-functional requirements.
  • You will establish the our requirements baseline and ensure changes are investigated and managed by ensuring change control and communication of requirements evolution.
  • You will document and manage requirements traceability matrix and confirm solution meets requirements.
  • You will utilize advanced modeling techniques to produce diagrams, models and prototypes that illustrate system and data relationships, and business process flows for both our states.
  • You will analyze the our requirements and validate potential solutions/approaches with business and technical staff to identify potential improvements in functionality and processes, and ways that technology can help to achieve organizational goals.
  • You will document project scope, complexity, cost, urgency, risk and partner value (i.e. business case) to help business and ITS leaders make informed decisions on proposed project viability and priority.
  • You will understand interdependencies between business systems transactional and data models to propose system changes and troubleshoot production issues which impact business operations.
  • You will support business and technical partners in all aspects of testing including test script development, acceptance criteria, integration testing, test data creation, user acceptance testing.
  • You will provide consultative support to partners to help them to achieve desired changes and outcomes.
  • You will Identify new opportunities to use/integrate data, applications or technology to enhance value.
  • You will validate solutions are ready for user acceptance testing.
  • You will contribute to integrated systems testing and help to manage the user acceptance testing for the acceptance of solutions.
  • You will work with the business and IT departments/teams on documenting business and technical processes necessary to migrate, operate and maintain solutions.
  • You will support the transition of solutions from a development to a production/operational status.
  • You will contribute to selection of the business analysis methods, tools and techniques for projects, selecting from plan-driven/predictive approaches (iterative, Agile).
  • You will apply and promote best practices for Requirements Definition and Management, Process Modeling, Business Case development, Change Management, Root Cause Analysis and related business analysis responsibilities and deliverables.
  • You will use established standards, methods and tools to ensure selection of technology, efficient use of resources and smooth integration of multiple systems and technologies.
  • You will establish relationships with partners and functional partners, and act as liaison between ITS and the assigned business groups.
  • You will communicate our needs to ITS to confirm agreement of our needs to technical capabilities.
  • You will collaborate with product owners, systems analysts, architects, developers, QA and other team members to advise and assist in all phases of the Software/System Development Lifecycle.
  • You will partner with business and technical teams and diplomatically resolve conflicts to ensure design which balances competing objectives.
  • You will provide high-quality documentation and assistance to team members tailored for specific audience and purpose.
  • You will cooperate with project manager, partners, other analysts and peers to ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities and resolve areas of confusion or overlap to enable teams.

What we're looking for:

  • Five years of relevant experience with experience in broad IT or department experience in one or more areas such as Business Process Management, Application Development, Data Management, Package Implementation, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, and Project Management.
  • Academic Degree(s) and/ areas of study: Bachelor's degree in computer science, business operations, or related field.
  • 7+ Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable:
  • Software/System Development Lifecycle and Integration.
  • System/process/data modeling tools and techniques.
  • Accessibility and Usability design approaches.
  • Proficient in process modeling techniques including UML diagramming.
  • Document our specifications and test specifications.
  • Experience with business case analysis/proposal development.
  • Experience with modeling tools: Visual Paradigm
  • Collect and prioritize user requirements.
  • Think and identify potential impacts across systems.
  • Understand complex needs and how current and emerging technologies are being employed to guide solutions.
  • Collaborate with and balance the needs of diverse team members (e.g. partners, end-users, developers) to design efficient solutions which meet our needs.
  • Provide advice and training to partners and team members.
  • Leadership (e.g. initiative, judgment) in carrying out all core responsibilities.
