THE POSITION

The Department of Agriculture, Presque Isle Downs Racetrack is seeking a licensed veterinarian to provide professional veterinary expertise in Thoroughbred Racetrack regulatory medicine and perform test barn activities (pre-race and post-race detention barn). DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position oversees all operations, tasks, and staff in the detention facility where urine and blood samples are collected for pre- and post-racehorse examinations. Additionally, the Veterinarian is tasked with administering medication to the horses.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time (per diem) employment. Standby position and works on an as-needed basis.
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and is determined by the racing schedule.
  • Salary: This position is per diem; the daily rate of pay is $400.00.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.

Special Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Post Employment Requirement:
  • If the employee is not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania, he/she must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within twelve (12) months of being hired.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
